You don't have to in this case but you can cut mortises with a good sharp chisel.

O.K. here is the cabinet in my 177 - almost complete, save for some wood putty to fill in those shiny nail holes where I didn't set the nail gun for deep enough penetration ... and the cabinet door.  I will take your advice above, but I will have to borrow the neighbors router ... I've installed a cabinet in my 177 according to Marwayne's helpful plans and pictures of the one he installed in his 172, but need to make and mount the door (see attached picture of Marwayne's craftmanship.  I can't magnify the image to determine exactly how he hinged the darn thing.  It also looks as if the door is at least 1/2 " oak plywood.  Marwayne, if you see this post, I would appreciate your enlightening me on the issue of the door, mounting and hinging it.  Thanks.
