Tranny and engine temps both were spiking, only when towing.

In Mythbusters terminology, so far the new tranny fluid is a "plausible" solution - to my complete surprise.  I took the pod out for 45 minutes on Saturday, intentionally pushing it to 75 for about 20 minutes with tow mode off (I saw higher temps with it off this summer).  Then I took it down to 60-65 for the next 20 minutes.  It didn't go higher than 185 when at 75, and settled down between 165-169 at the more normal speeds.  I'm surprised.

Granted, the ambient temp was around 48 and not 78-100 like it was last summer.  But, I saw the same engine and tranny temps whether it was 78 or 100 so I'm not convinced I'll see much difference next spring once the air warms up.

Rex, thanks for the offer. Flounder is my absolutely favorite fish, right next to Bluegill, Redear (you guys call them bream) and Boston Scrod. Do you use like a frog gig on a stick or shoot em with a bow ? There is nothing better than fresh caught fish. No, not the coolant, I've had that problem before years ago and I know what you mean.  Another GM product at the time...

They replaced the tranny fluid, which I would have done soon anyway after the too-warm temps this summer.  Both fans activate when the A/C is turned on so they do work - both computer controlled.  They threw their diagnostic computer on it and drove it around for 90 miles and couldn't trigger any codes or get it to overheat while not towing which I told them would happen... 

We'll see what happens tomorrow.

Doug, as you know unless the coolant looked like a milk shake and too thick to flow, that is not the problem. While I thought mine was parked for the season (at least until the winter trip in January), ironically I'll need to hitch it up and drive it around for an hour tomorrow and then again later next week.
 
Not to camp, but because the "overwarm" problem I've been having while towing can't be diagnosed w/o the camper.  They changed the fluid today at the shop and claimed it was the problem.  My drive around tomorrow is to prove to myself they are wrong, then I'm going to have to take it to the shop with camper in tow to prove it to them.

Yes even in Indiana we have to winterize and put her to sleep for winter. I was hoping to get one more trip in this year but it is not going to happen. with a heavy heart I winterized the pod and moved her to the "winter parking spot" I will probably wash it and let it dry before putting the factory cover on it. Donna is already talking about a trip to West Virginia, and maybe Mammoth Cave Ky. Ok I am thinking Marathon Key. ohh well sleep tight my friend.
