Author: sammycamper
Subject: 4190
Posted: 07 Nov 2013 at 12:04am

I don't have any recipes to offer; but I've suffered through so many years of camping with inferior gas and charcoal grills that I want to sing the praises of our Coleman RoadTrip Portable Tabletop Grill.

It fires up dependably with the push of a button, and it heats up quickly. The heat is distributed evenly over the cast iron grill surface, and it never seems to have a problem with flare-ups.

I bought the stove itself at a drastically reduced price in a Camping World store about 4 years ago. A year or two later, I found the case/cover on sale; and finally completed the package when I saw the table marked down.

The grill works so well that I think it's a good value even at it's full price of $149. "Compact" would be a better word to describe it than "portable." Surely, you can easily lift it and move it from place to place; but it doesn't close into a tight and secure package with an integrated carrying handle, or any such thing. You need both hands to carry it.

The case/cover is OK, but still doesn't make things particulary portable. I don't recall it's full retail price; but I doubt it would be worth that. I think I paid about half price, and I'm glad I have it for the sake of keeping the grill clean and protected when not in use.

The table is nice when it's setup; but it's very heavy. We have to be careful about transporting it in the camper so that it doesn't slide around and damage things. It's not very difficult to setup, but it is awkward. I like the shelves that lift into place on either side, and the front handle is handy for hanging utensils. Again, I'm glad I bought it at a seriously reduced sale price; but, I don't think it would be worth full retail.

The size of the grill is a nice compromise that makes it small enough to carry around and transport for camper camping (it's no backpacking unit), and large enough to do some serious grilling. It's also relatively easy to clean. It has a disposable drip tray, push-button start, thermometer, and a shallow warming shelf. The base is a nice, stable platform for setting the grill on a table or any flat surface.

I think it looks good, too.

Sam
