I've been thinking about trading up myself into Ram 1500. Not sure if I'm going to yet but the extra power over the Jeep V-6 and 5-speed would be much appreciated. I've been debating on holding out for the 2016 diesel Wrangler... but I'm not anticipating it'll be much improvement for long hauls... you get an 8-speed transmission in the 1500.

Do you do much off-roading...?
I'm actually quite happy with it but it could use some improvement. It struggles a bit around 65mph and long hills. I generally tow our 177 in 4th gear around 2500-2800 rpms to keep the engine from shifting so much between 4th and 5th. Like vtwin said, it does shift quite a bit in the higher gears but running it in 4th is no problem.

Also, I have a Reese anti-sway weight-distributing hitch. I haven't towed it without the hitch but from what I've read from other folks with Jeeps, the weight distribution hitch works much better. Again, I haven't towed it without the hitch but from my personal experience with the hitch, it's rock solid and I'm very happy with it... there's no sway on the trailer even around 65 with trucks passing or side winds. I would recommend it.
