May be off topic but I do know of a good app that I have used and I also didnt want to start another thread since we are on trip planning apps.
Iv used RoadTrippers in the past and had worked out pretty good, they too have an app for it and im pretty sure its IOS and Android.
 
Im looking to find a good website to I can work on the trip on the computer mostly. Im not too fond of mobile apps since I try not to use my phone while driving. Also you never have reception when you need it.
 
Im planning a trip for the summer of 2017 from Anchorage AK to Texas and I am wanting to get the best trip I can on it and idt you can every start to early when planning a trip that long.

I just purchased an app called Allstays. It lists all the campgrounds, all the Wallmarts, all the rest stops, the low overhead restrictions, the loves, pilot, the public parks, it has all the camping clubs, phone and web links for campgrounds etc....I paid $3.99 at the apple App Store. I think it is the one app you need when traveling with a camper. I also purchased a severe weather alert app to warn me if there a tornado or other severe weather in the area.

A noble project to be sure, but I think you would be dealing with a lot of crossover apps and means of accessing the same info - via web browser, google maps, good sam, all stays, etc., etc.

Now if you really want to take on an ambitious project...

Convince the RV industry to standardize monitoring systems much the same way the auto industry has been doing for years (OBD). Then, an app that monitors those systems via the OBD port would be very, very cool.

Tankage (water, grey, black), Battery Condition, Indoor/Outdoor Temp, Reefer Temp, Tire Pressure, etc.

Time to consider a Kickstarter! project! Smile

That app doesn't get good reviews, but it has its usefulness.  A Forest River app could help with roadside assistance, show the nearest dealer relative to your current location, and more.

Would anyone else find such an app useful?

Interesting that neither of our last two camping destinations had cell service in or around the campground. In fact, our last was several miles and a few turns in and out of the park before we had any usable signal.

A couple of tips that might help:

Offline Maps

I prefer Google Maps as my main navigation app. You can save offline maps of your destination for later use => https://support.google.com/gmm/answer/3273567?hl=en

I also use Motion X-GPS which I really like for hiking and biking. It too allows for offline map downloads => http://gps.motionx.com/

Paper maps are a pretty good backup too!

Weather

Podcasts/Movies

Don't forget to download want you might want to listen to or rip what you may want to watch before leaving! I use Handbrake for ripping and saving a Netflix movie or two in case it's raining or I can't get a campfire going! => http://handbrake.fr/

I've recently been using Waze. A friend turned me onto it.

It has nice features that help with navigation and seems to take into consideration more than just the quickest route by looking at traffic, accidents, road work etc. On my way home from a business trip the other night it routed me a completely different way home than I would have thought of and I loved the route.

It also has the ability to send a text with your route and a map that updates your location for those who want to see where you are and when you will arrive.

These are being used on a iPhone and an iPad. 
Gas Buddy - great app, make sure you look to see when the price was updated last. 
RVparking.com - works on both platforms. Has links to websites. Seems to have lots of N/A, not available data that is easily obtained at the location's website. Enter a location, city, town, etc. and a liist/map shows places to park/camp/etc.  Locations include Walmarts too. 
U.S. Lights - works on both platforms. For lighthouse buffs, Maps, pictures, history, great app. 
Tide guides - find one and use one. 
Weather apps - find one that gives good info that makes sense to you. 
AAA app - if you have AAA, get it. 
Vehicle insurance - State Farm, etc. contact info, insurance cards, etc.

One of my favourites is HearPlanet (ios, don't know if it's available in Android). It's an app that uses your location and brings up a list of highlights in your immediate area.  I really like this App because it lists points of interest and not only the Top 10 Tourist attractions an internet search will show.  It separates the info on each area by overview and history.  What it tries to feature is a robotic voice reading the script out like a podcast, but I just prefer to read it myself as listening to that is quite tedious at times.

For example, when we were in Toronto, it listed the Observatory in Richmond Hill just north of the city. We've been driving around it for years and never really knew it was there.

I know I have asked this before, but. I have a TomTom gps, why is there not a reasonable program that shows R.V. sites and camp grounds available. I will not pay $350.00 or $400.00 for a dedicated gps for campgrounds. I've got two (paid) campground-search apps that I really like:

Both are GPS-enabled, provide campground overviews and amenities, links to online reviews, and allow you to search by amenities; both cover Canada and the USA.  The Allstays app is my favourite and is a little more feature-rich and also includes RV Dealers and Walmarts (identifying stores where you can park overnight).

They're both particularly handy for finding open campgrounds at this time of year as most 'round here have closed for the season.

I like "Point Inside".  I needed to drive to a Crate and Barrel store at the Burlington Mall while visiting relatives.  Point Inside showed me where, in that huge and confusing complex, the danged place was.  I drove exactly to the closest parking area, bought the fabulous knife I wanted to give my niece, and drove out like a seasoned retail maven.  It is useful at decoding restrooms, parking, atms, security and "promos" at malls and transportation hubs.  I like the free price too. This is the Android like; it is also available for those of the Apple ideology.

If you are a Passport America Member their app is useful. You can use it if you are not a member but you do not get the discount.  I also have USA Reststops, Camp Finder, and Gas Buddy. If you are a Canadian or live in one of the Border States that has Tim Hortons then the Timmy me app is a must. 

I am an Android user but I know some of these apps are on the Iphone as well.

Trip Adviser is great for finding a restaurant.

Boon Docking is a cool free app.  It will bring up a map showing your location.  Zoom out, go to the interested area and it will show you known places to boon dock. 

I have it but haven't used it yet.

I've got iExit - probably similar to Reststops. This one shows gas/food/lodging/grocery stores, etc at each exit. 
Another one I have is Point Inside. It shows shopping centers/malls and even maps of the malls so you can see which stores are inside.
They were both free. I have a Droid.
