We use our convection oven at home for a few things, but we've never used it in the Rpod. Go figure. What we do at home is (usually) the same temperature, but for a shorter period of time. That may not be what you're looking for, but it is what we do. We have found that baked goods (cakes, cookies, muffins) work better on plain bake instead of convection. It seems to dry them out too much.

You may find these recipe adjustments usefull.

I know this is an old post and I watched some of the videos. I'm going to be camping by myself with electricity (something that's now rare for me) and I want to experiment wiht the convection oven.

I can't for the life of me figure out how to use it. I mean I get that if I want to cook one of the preset things I can push a series of buttons...but I don't cook most of those things. How do I set the convection oven to a specified temperature? Is there an equivalency chart somewhere? I want to cook salmon at 475. Any experts on this here? Confused

In the Facebook group, there's a "rite of passage" of baking cinnamon rolls in the convection microwave. We recently purchased both of Janet Sadlack's Microwave-Convection Cookbooks. We haven cooked six recipes, they all turned out great.

I emailed her a question about one recipe, she responded in one day.

In the previous three seasons with our R-Pod we hadn't experimented with this feature, it really works good.

Thanks for your reply StephenH! Good advise on not spilling liquid on the glass turntable. I've left the glass turntable in while using cooking with the Convection Oven part of this device. The glass turntable has survived just fine. However, I would not spill liquids on as that sudden temperature change might risk breaking the glass. Now for the ends on the legs, they are silicone rubber and can take the convection heat. I'm not sure about the grilling part though.When I have used them, they tend to pop off. That may be due to trapped air expanding and pushing them off.

So I’m struggling with a couple of things on using the convection microwave oven. I’ve read on other RV forums that some ovens require that you remove the glass turntable when using the convection oven as it’s not rated for the high heat. When looking at the glass turntable in my oven it’s stamped with a label that says microwave use only.

I downloaded the manual for my model oven and it contradicts this by saying to use the turntable for all cooking. In addition, if I were to remove the turntable the legs on the metal rack used with convection cooking really done have a flat surface to set on.

Am I ok leaving the glass turntable in the oven when convection cooking?

Also, is the metal rack with plastic end caps able to be used when grilling, or would the plastic melt.

I've been experimenting a lot with our convection oven in the Dawg Pod and I just love it. The user manual was useless. I went online for some help and found these wonderful You Tube videos by a sweet lady named Janet Sadlack. She is an RVer but her videos feature her Sharp convection microwave in her kitchen. It is very similar to the High Pointe unit in our r Pod. She made four short videos which feature each of the main functions e.g. Microwave, grilling, convection baking and combination cooking. She explains which pans to use for each and gives lots of tips. She is very smart and the videos are clear and concise. Here is the link to the first video. Enjoy!

I'll give it a try. On another note, I am in the middle of building that corner cabinet that you laid out for me. I still am a little nervous about the lack of a firm anchor on the long side (such as you have on the microwave cabinet on your 172, but I'm giving it a shot. I couldn't figure out what you meant by a "gable" to firm up the long side of the cabinet, given there is nothing to anchor the long side of the cabinet in the 177, but I am improvising some other supports that might work.

Getting the curve right on the front piece is my current challenge.

I like your pods new nose job. A friend who happens to own a Lance 1685 was amazed when I sent the picture to him. His response: "Marwayne is 'the man'."

I rarely hook up my 177 to shore power. I am wondering if my 2000 watt Honda generator would pump enough electricity to run the convention oven ... or for that matter, the microwave. I think that one or the other is rated for 1500 watts, but I may be incorrect. it is common to continually bake chocolate chip cookies each trip until you learn the specifics of your oven.

Wanna test your new, never been used convection/microwave, smoke detector and fantastic vent all at the same time?

Easy!

Just fire up the new convection oven in preheat mode!! In just a few minutes, the smoke detector will go off, you'll open windows and door with fantastic fan running on high! After the oven is on for thirty minutes or so, no more factory burn-off.

Oh, and also good test for Fantastic Vent Ultrabreeze cover in the rain!

At least now I know I can burn the lasagne in a driving rainstorm and get rid of the evidence pretty quickly. LOL

I've barely scratched the surface with taking advantage of its full potential. I am currently out traveling in the pod and just tried using the grill feature on it to make a grilled cheese sandwich. Buttered the outside of the bread a little, placed the sandwich on a tin pie plate, then cooked it for about 8 mins on the top and bottom grill function. Probably could have cooked it just a tad longer, but it was toasty on both sides. Never thought I'd be so excited about a plain ol grilled cheese sandwich.
