That is a stock picture off the PHQ site. That one is silver with black trim, and the RPOD is not a 171 but mine is the same color. I ordered one of these from Paha Que. I think it's pretty ugly, but it will provide the coverage I want. I ordered it in tan with forest green trim to hopefully look OK with my 2016 171.

I did a similar thing to Jdub. I bought two adjustable 8' poles and a 12x12' tarp at REI: https://www.rei.com/product/893999/rei-co-op-camp-tarp-12

I made rail connectors from nylon spacers and parachute cord that go in the rail and attach to the grommets on one side of the tarp. https://www.homedepot.com/p/Everbilt-1-2-in-x-1-in-x-257-I-D-Nylon-Spacer-815018/204276572 I don't remember which diameter of these spacers I used so check the rail inside diameter.

The poles are guyed out.

It works pretty well, not perfect.

That said, I decided to purchase the RDome and see how it works this camping season.

I added an awning using a 10 x 12 tarp and some sail sliders. Looks like this. I adjust it forward and aft depending o the sun and/or rain. cost $45. More pics on the SLOPODMODS link below

We recently made an awning for our 179. We bought keder material and sewed it to a 9x12 heavy duty tarp. We use standard tent type adjustable poles . We have used it several times in wind and rain and it held up fine

Made from an old sail. Actual sailboat luff tape might be too small, what you want is called awning rope. We usually use the awning quite a bit, the disadvantage is that you have all the poles and lines to walk around. You also need a fairly stout sewing machine to attach the awning rope. I doubt we'll see any other awning for the Pods. Just as a regular awning is standard on other RV's the Rdome is what we have for Pods.

Your custom job is amazing though, looks great!!!

Hi!
We had an awning made at our local awning shop. Nothing fancy but it does the trick. Had 3 grommets put in across the front for the poles and hubby actually took some plain pvc and with his heat gun shaped it to match the curve of the roof line. We insert that into a pocket on the underside of the awning at the halfway point. This give the awning just enough shape to clear the door and gives enough coverage for coming and going.
I'm hoping that FR will come out with a proper awning as well instead of having to get the R-dome.

You can either load them straight from your computer to this site, or load them to a 3rd party site like photobucket and link them.

If you use "post reply" instead of "quick reply" you should see a place/clicky to "insert image"..

I went to REI and got a custom tent pole ( tubular aluminum, 30 inch sections of so, with an internal bungee cord). Then went to a local awning store and ordered a tarp with a sleeve on one side and grommets on the other. I then sewed up one end of the sleeve. The tent pole fixes into the sleeve until it hits the end. I feed the tarp/pole combo into the C rail and run it until it is even on both sides. "Luff tape" used by sailors to make sails roller furling could be sewn on the edge of any piece of canvas ( Sunbrella) to slide into the curved slot on the side of the pod. Telescoping fiberglass tent supports could supply the arch shape. Not a difficult project if you sew. Have fun! 1) DIY

2) Order from one of the boutique awning manufacturers. There are several who make awnings for vintage trailers. And of course PahaQue.. but in my mind those are to expensive.. (custom) I am a DIYer..

The curve of the roof makes it difficult (say near impossible) to put a traditional straight awning on the Rpod. Hello, just wanted to add to our Mods by getting
an awning that looks nice. I know the R done has
been a topic of discussion with many but I just want a simple, vintage looking awning on
our trailer! I am looking around right now and I am thinking a 6x8 would look good.
The 177 has a fairly long rail and a tough curve but it can be worked with.
Any ideas? I don't understand why Forest River does not
