I'm also looking at the Oztent RV 5z6 person tent it has a awning and tent section connected and a 30 second setup time for 1 person setup

The dealer I had did not even mention the R-Dome. It was not until I joined the forum that I even heard about it in any detail. The literature mentioned it, but not in enough detail for me to know whether I would like it or not. Since purchasing it now would cost several hundred dollars. I decided to make my own awning (see my mods) instead. It won't provide the extra room of the R-Dome, but it will keep the door area dry when it rains so we will be able to keep the door or the door window (also in my mods) open for ventilation when it rains.

We have been out with the Rpod twice now and could not be happier with my Rdome. Many compliments thrust the parks. Could not imagine camping without it. Did struggle at first with the track being too big but on the advise of another I used two blocks of wood and a c clamp to close the gap. when I bought my 179 Rpod recently the salesman talked me out of getting the Rdome,

He said that the FR had so many problems and complaints about that rDome that FR was ready to stop offering it, and sent them a notice. They said they had a after market version at $800.00. so I held off.

I really like the idea of having a private outdoor room, and am still looking for something, maybe a awning?

BayPod has your best answer.. If you had a blue and grey dome.. different answer.

But for green and grey, It's manufacturing tolerance stacking that causes it. Just vice grip the rail closed a little.

We have the same POD (2016 178) and the same RDome. We experienced the same problem the first time we set up the DOME. I can't say I know whether it's the track that is too large or the rope bead that is installed on the Dome that is too small. All I know is that the rope bead simply would not stay inside the track. So, I took a pair a big vice grips, wrapped some duct tape around the jaws to protect the track and I crimped the outside edges of the track every 18 inches or so, all along the track. It bends pretty easily. When I installed the Dome the next time it stayed put. You don't need to crimp it much...perhaps a sixteenth of an inch or so and you only need crimps every foot and a half. All you want to do is get the Dome to remain attached to the POD. Once the setup is complete, the spars of the Dome take the stress off the track and the rope bead. My old rpod was stolen and had just the fiberglass pole to the dome in it. I had the dome in the garage. I need a new pole but even dometic doesn't know how long it is. Can someone measure the fiberglass pole and tell me how long it is so I can get a replacement. 6x9 covers a lot of the dome floor but you'll have area left uncovered
8x12 mats cover nearly all of the dome floor but will stick out some in the front and on sides of some domes.

Yes if we were ever go plan on using ours we'd mod it like Marwayne did.  Looks and works better IMO.

yes you will have the screen for the bottom.  it fits in a C-Channel at the bottom.  i think we used ours twice?

We still have the CW step stool that we kept from our motor home days.  The Pod's step is not deep enough for us, so we have been using that stool instead.  Somewhere I read that another member uses a similar step stool which eliminates the need to cut a slit in the dome's skirt.  Just a thought....

Sure will, but it will be a while. Best I can describe is that we put a slit through the slide screen at the steps (just big enough for the steps to slip through). We left all of the excess slide screen (on our dome it was about 3 feet too long)), and when we cut the slit for the steps, we made sure the screen had equal amounts of left-over screening on each side. We wrap that screen around the inside of the corners of the tent area (it's stiff because of the left-over track). We also put a couple of heavy objects, like a cooler, etc., on top of the screen overlap in those corners to hold everything in place. Hope you can picture it. Have to admit that the first couple of times we set up the R-dome, we made it a challenge and spent a lot of time playing with the issue of gap. You do have to work with it at first.

Easiest way to make sure you get the one that is sized for your Pod is to call and order through Forest River.

Aside from that yes it is the Dometic Cabana.  Ebay used to sell them but I haven't seen them on there for a while, that used to be a nice place to get them very cheaply.

But for a 178 whatever the biggest cabana you find online should be the one for you.  I'll look around for the model number but maybe someone else will have it handy, I can't find it at the moment.
