We have traveled and camped extensively throughout the Intermountain West, Pacific Northwest and Midwest over the years, so we are planning a mega trip to the East in mid-September. Yesterday we started to really plan for this, and it is daunting to say the least. We will be heading to Niagra Falls first - no problem with those plans. Once we've been there, we want to head Southeast, take in some history, maybe even head for the coast. We don't want to travel more than 300 miles per day, and we'd like to stay a while in some of the interesting areas. We will go as far South as Charlotte (to visit the USS Yorktown). From there we will be heading back to Missouri (where we were born and raised - no problem getting back there from Charlotte). We will have 6 weeks, and we would like to experience staying in state parks every now and then rather than just KOA's. Does anyone from the area have any suggestions? We're free spirits and don't like a specific itinerary (no reservations unless absolutely necessary). That's why we like to travel in the fall. Just need to try to get home before the snow. Any ideas would be appreciated.

We find it less stressful on mountain passes and of course a lot easier on the vehicle. The R-pod dealer had told us it would be no problem to tow with the Liberty however our vehicle mechanic advised that we should not tow more than 75% of what the vehicle is rated for! it is true that the r-pods are a light trailer but once you had water, gear and passengers to the vehicle you can quickly max out.

After a little time on the Interstate I figured out that the Jeep would make about 60 mph in the headwind and I was getting passed by everyone and their mother so I decided to take the highways the rest of the way. We got off onto Highway 6 and cruised comfortably the rest of the way to Minden.
Setup proved to be as simple as I expected and was without hiccups.

We enjoyed the time we spent in and out of the Pod, we cooked a good bit on an electric griddle on the picnic table outside and enjoyed sitting out with an adult beverage after tucking the kids in.

All in all it was a great first experience and we're hunting for a to short hop place to stay this weekend.
