My niece and her son visited us a couple of years ago and walked through our woods. They were bitten without knowing it. Neither showed the red circle. They came down with Lyme's after they returned home. The little boy was hospitalized for several weeks. My niece was put on IV antibiotics for three months, followed by another three months of oral medication. She has permanent mild nerve damage.
Whenever I go into any area with unmowed grass or woods, I spray my long pants with a insect repellent. I have found that Permanon (sp?) works the best but should never be applied to bare skin. Deet at its highest concentration also works for me. If you don't like chemicals, wear long slacks with the socks pulled over the legs.
I have not got the results back from the blood test. ohh well I put 15 big old blue gill and red ear on the stringer that day.

Pretty controversial subject with regular docs. Word out now in alternative world of chronic lymeis that you need up to 8 weeks of antibiotic treatment - and a bare minimum of 4 when you are bitten and have a definite rash/ring . If you should become ill later - days or weeks or years - remember back to this and research chronic lyme disease and treatment options. Its very hard to get rid of past this initial infection time. Most chronic people would love to have had the bullseye rash to "prove" they have it. The testing is very ineffective - even the very best test. If you ever want to do a Western Blot test - do it through Igenex in CA and DO NOT rely on a western medical doctor to be able to read it. Lots of lyme literate people on the net can help you interpret it.

Sorry - this hits close to home as I have friends who have become so sick. We eventially ruled it out for my daughter who does have Mold Toxicity. My husband also had rash from a bite and did not receive the proper meds script from regular doc. Beyond frustrating.
