I've heard good things about Ten Tec.

Definitely not cheap, but for the advantages the Flex-3000 isn't too bad.  It would be nice if it covered all bands and didn't stop at 6m.

I have a Ten-Tec Jupiter for home, and use an old fashioned 80 meter flat top dipole fed with ladder line and a roller inductor tuner. I am not a big gun on the DX bands but I rag chew with the best of them.

HF mobile is a gas! I have spent hours in traffic jams in conversation (QSO) to exotic places. It beats sitting in the truck getting mad. I have a radio for mobile HF that has dsp, and that helps a bunch. The blower has a safety switch which acts as a sail - it gets blown by the air pressure which activates a switch.  If the blower won't blow, or won't blow enough air (a nearly dead battery will cause this), the safety switch shuts down the rest of the furnace so it doesn't overheat.

Mostly better, thanks.  After a week I felt fine but it moved into my nasal passages and has been lodged there ever since.  Finally clearing up, I hope.  And I always get the flu shot!

Looks like we had a fault sail switch.  I'm not sure what that is but thats what they fixed.  We'll be camping in March and will probably need to use the heat at night.  Will find out then if it works.  

The flu bug missed us, maybe the flu shot helped us this time.  Yak and Tech - hope you are both recovered now.

Hope everyone is feeling better by now.  Glad I missed that Flu Bug going around.  I just had an e-mail from Hopewell Furnance

"I am responding to your Jan. 26inquiry about the Hopewell Furnace Mark Bird stove plate purchased by Friendsof Hopewell Furnace about a year ago.  It is now in a drawer in our museumstorage building.  We plan to use it in our new Visitor Center displays,which are now being planned.  They will probably be installed in May orJune 2013."
