Have never camped on that end across the river, have done so when you go over bridge and go right.

I emptied my fresh water tank, cleared the faucets and checked on black and grey water today. I am going even it it gets really cold. With our weather here in Burg going to be 28, it will no doubt be colder at Elkmont. But not in day time.

This time last week, I was at Elkmont - Great Smoky Mts.  No wonder it looked familiar to you.  I was at site A-14 the second half of the week.  Saturday thru Tuesday (before), I was on the other side of the river, in site L-15 (I think).

It's a nice site with a stream running thru the back.  There are large trees on both sides of the "entry", so be careful backing up folks! 

 

Every year, I swear I'll not go back to Elkmont because of the traffic and crowds but...........

 

The view is fantastic, large spaces, not packed next to one another. Looks like what David does.

Reasonable regulations. $20 dollars a night, $23 if you have river site. With my senior pass I get it for $10 nightly. Camp hosts until 29-31 October. honor system for month of November, just one part of campground open then, first come , first serve.

 

I can't change the topic into a poll, at this point.  Perhaps Admin can????  Newbies/Groupies/Senior Members all have the same "rights", so that's not it.  A person is a "newbie" until they have posted 50 times.  50-99 times - a "groupie".  100 or more - a "senior member".  The software auto assigns this based on the number of a member's posts.  Again, everyone has the same rights, regardless.

 

As the others have mentioned, when you first started this topic, there should have been 2 "buttons" near the top of the page; "New Topic" and "New Poll".  Try to do a "New Poll" and let us know if it does not work (you don't have to actually do a poll.....just cancel/close/use your "back button" and it won't be saved or posted).

 

In answer to your question/poll.....

I much prefer National & State Parks.  I DO prefer commercial/private campgrounds for just overnights/enroute to the parks - as they tend to be close to the highway and have some food and some supplies (if needed).  In my experience, they seem to put the campsites really close together and, in general, are not very scenic. 

 

With National & State parks, well.......a few pictures are worth a few thousand words.....

We have been to several privately owned ones and don't feel they match the KOA's. We are going to start hitting some of the Stae Parks in Vermont and NH, but really like the full hook-ups and I must admit it.....the Cable tv.

 

 

We've always done our tent camping in SP's & NP's and lean towards that for our Podding adventures in the future, especially since the public campgrounds here in the Carolina's are for the most part pretty nice.  But I notice that many of you stay in public campgrounds, so color me curious.
