Some people seem to think drinking a lot and staying up all night around a campfire is their right and they can be as loud as they want.   If there is a campground host it is best to contact them to help with the problem.  Do not provoke people.  Everyone is pissed off. 

Last summer I visited an older Forest Service campground way up in the mountains.  Hard to get to and no host.  Great. Except it seemed to attract the most obnoxious people because they knew there was no host. 

It is a great comfort to be able to sleep in a trailer with hard sides to reduce the noise level.  It helps a lot.  Same with lights.  You can shut them out. 

I like the off season with fewer kids, better weather and no crowds.  I am very careful about visiting public summer campgrounds.  Boondocking is best in July and August.

Greetings:

Most race tracks will have a family area where rules are enforced.  Reserve or ask for the area.  

The worst experience I had was at a Antique steam and tractor show in S MN where I had 30 drunks 20 feet away partying until 4am with a large fire.  I complained to the board, it was better next year but I felt unsafe the way the campers were crowded together.  I no longer camp there.

Are you taking about hmmm.... a 336 cam? If so IMHO the boost in performance is not that great and as far as the valve job all the early 80 models have a bad tendency of valve rescission do to faulty metallurgic of the valve seats because of the introduction of no lead gas. There for most of the bikes in those years have had valve jobs. Though this is a subject for a BMW forum or shoot me a PM.

I'm happy with my Pod and even though I wish I could take my bike at a little over 500 lbs. it would be to much to load in the rear of the truck. Though if you know someone with a 1950 to 1960's single cylinder R25 or 26 for sale I'd be all ears! Wink

Agree with you totally, it's nice having your toothbrush handy. Still I'm perplexed as to the psychology of individuals that would pay what we did for our Pods or even better thousands of dollars more for a 5th wheel, motor home, what have you, and once set up never venture outside? If that's what you want fine but I still wonder why don't they "camp" at a five star hotel then in a campground hmmm?

The 1981-84 model BWW's were nice. A set of Ohlins on the rear and a sport cam with a 5 angle valve grind will wake the engine up a bit. Have you looked at this mini bike hauler?

The truth is, MANY RV owners are not campers at all. Many NEVER were. WE see plenty of new owners right here for whom the R-Pod is their very first "camping" experience. For many though, it's a mobile hotel room, where they know everything is to their liking. And they use it thusly.

To avoid a lot of that, don't stay in parks with full hookups. Stay in small parks. Boondock. Etc.

Our experience with rude campers was from a stag party that lasted to 4:30 in the morning!! The next day as I was walking by there campsite I said to a hung over guy " the campground would like to thank you and the two chatty cathys for keeping them up till 4:30 and where are the two chatty Cathy's ?? No problem on agreeing to disagree, but depending on where you go camping, generators are among the things we have to deal with, like them or not.  People camp for a lot of reasons, and have a lot of styles of camping.  Some people have generators, some have dogs or motorcycles, some have kids.  Some have boomboxes, guitars, or loud drunk friends.  Many have various combinations of those, and other annoyances.  Some people don't even like camper trailers.  To each is own.

Regarding generators, I was a long time tent camper and I used to have great disdain for them.  Now I he one.  The reality is that there are so many more RVs out there now than there used to be that most campgrounds cater to RVs and RVs and generators go together.  The NP campgrounds I mostly go to have areas for, or not for, generators and they have generator hours.  I always try to avoid spots near tents when I can.  (I'm not a big fan of the reservation system the NPs all seem to have bought into.)  Sometimes you get put next to whoever made the previous reservation.

I have tent-camped in non-generator areas and had neighbors way noisier and much more obnoxious than someone next door with a cheap million dB generator too.
 
I think people need to be sensitive to their neighbors, whether it's about dogs or generators or whatever.

We were recently camping at a very small Nat'l Forest campground in SW Colorado, when a miraculously huge toy hauler managed to thread it's way through the place and set up next to us.  Not more than 30 minutes later, the generator started (just don't get me started on generators...).  Then the rear door/ramp came down, and the reason the generator was necessary became clear.  They used an electric leaf blower to blow the crap out of their trailer into the "green space" between our camp sites.

I was there 3 years ago and just about everywhere I went there was a fog of various densities, except it wasn't fog, it was smoke.

Another reason to dry camp and find an out of the way spot. Generators and people blasting their music hinder relaxing. Luckly here in Idaho there are places to escape. Though the fed gov't is doing their best to burn down our state.

I thought I was the only one who had noisy camp neighbors. I really prefer weekday and out-of-season camping. No kids, few dogs and lots empty sites. We were camped in Guadalupe National Monument near the longest day of the year having a great time connecting with our neighbors. 10 pm came early and we weren't watching our time. It became obvious that we were enjoying ourselves too much when a neighbor shined a million power light at us and told us to be quiet! We got the message. 
I've thought about the solution, but afraid that kind of light might make a great target....

We where at Yellowstone in the Canyon CG for a week prior to going on a week long backcountry horse pack trip, which was awesome. We had a large family pull in across from us and as soon as truck was turned off the father gave kids ax and saw and they proceeded to cut down live and dead trees in the campground. Needless to say we were dumbfounded while my girlfriend filmed this I went to find a ranger which took about an hour. Ranger finally showed up came to our site and watched this family cut down the CG.
