The PugPod made its maiden journey..Backing into the spot was no problem and there were no witnesses.. .Windy when we put up and took down the R-Dome.... next time should be easier and straighter.  Only 5 other units + some brave souls in a tent...  temp dropped to 29-30 degrees Friday... Pugs hogged the bed so they felt at home...

Welcome to the forum, PugPod. I hope you post lots of camping with puggies stories. I pod with my pug, too. Luckily, the interior color scheme is tannish and brown: good for camouflaging pug hair. :-) My pug likes being in the pod much better than sitting by the campfire. Pugmobile made home and is safely tucked away in the driveway... only took three shots to get it straight.. 2 whiskey and one brandy. Well, I have to totally come clean.  In an earlier life a worked for an RV dealer selling trailers and large Class A motorhomes, 30-40 feet long.  Although they all have a backup camera I had never used one before.  Soooo, while backing one up to demo to a prospective customer I backed into a tree.  Was interesting to all the mechanics watching as I backed closer and closer to the tree.  Now the rear end caps on those behemoths are fiberglass.  Needless to say I had to pay for one of those, and my portion was about $2,500.  Pretty expensive lesson.  While watching the display on the dashboard, I didn't realize  they have a rather distorted view as the lens on the camera is of a pretty wide angle view.  In any event I thought I had a lot more space.  Sorry to say, I didn't.  Lesson learned.  Gonna be interesting backing my Pod up.  Don't think it will be a problem, but I won't have any problem recalling a very embarassing moment.  Didn't even happen in a campground!]]> Mon, 26 Mar 2012 22:52:38 +0000 http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2454&PID=23240#23240 Getting closer : I know practice will make... http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2454&PID=23234#23234 Author: PugPod

Rare is the camper who doesn't have to do a little "jockey-ing" around a bit.....if only to find the best level spot on the parking spur.  I just take my time and don't worry what others think.  As with most tasks in life, there are some that are better than me and some that are not as good. ME TOO!  I leave all the backing up stuff to my menfolk on the farm - but alas, they're not too fond of camping (but thank goodness my grandkids are).  So I have to do it all myself!

I'm often conscious of it when I arrive, but I'm the best trailer backer-upper I know so I often deprive the onlookers of their expected show.  Clap

bagpiper, you will do fine, dont let the people around you get in a hurry, take your time and you will be ok. I grew up on a farm and was driving and backing up a farm tractor at 9, pulling boats and utility trailers, but my next door neighbor showed me a trick. I need to find an empty parking lot to practice backing up... haven't had any trailer experience for 40 years even then I wasn't that good no accidents just a long time getting the boat into the water with several noisy fishermen telling me how!!!! After a bumpy start I got a pair of walkie talkies and the Mrs. now spots for me and tells me what I have behind me and which way to go to get where I need to.  Pods seem to back fairly easily, and that was the only thing I worried about when we got ours.

We don't have pugs, but we do have bostons.  Perfect size dogs for pods!

That's great news!  The weather has been fantastic though it looks like it's going to be closer to normal next week.  At least we know what summer is going to feel like and knowing, for me, that we'll start camping in a few short weeks.
