Had an unfortunate experience with GS a while back. Our old pick-up out in front of the house had a flat tire. I have a heart condition and between the bad weather and difficult parking angle I decided to call for roadside assistance. Reached in my wallet and called GS. The rep explained that they could not send an assist vehicle because our truck was "too close to our house". Never remember reading that in the small print of the GS aggreement. Next step was even more ironic. We also had AAA back then so I called and asked for help. The AAA account was in my wife's name and according to the AAA rep, SHE had to call in person to request the service. I tried to disguise my voice but it didn't work and my wife was in a meeting and could not be reached by phone.

Long story short - - AAA came to the rescue and repaired the tire. In the meantime, GS must have been monitoring their service calls because within a few days I got a call from the Regional Vice President !! He apologized and said that they had some new Customer Service reps and what I had been told was incorrect and that GS should in fact have responded to my call. In order to make up for their blunder, the VP offered me one full year of GS coverage at NO COST !

So, we now have both and aren't quite sure which one we'll keep and which one we'll cancel ?????

Under normal circumstances    ...how long should a hub last ? Guessing you got it from Forest River ? Might pick one up myself - - because we LIVE in Wyoming and I can just imagine needing one out in the middle of nowhere.

I think that the spare hub cost me about $50 plus a very small shipping fee.  The hub does not take up much room nor is very heavy, I didn't buy a spare brake assembly or drum.  I tow with a full sized pickup so I figured if the hub and brake went out...I could at least limp home with the new hub installed and no brake on that side.
The hub is just unusual enough that it would be just my luck to be out in the middle of Montana, and it would take days to get a new hub shipped out.  The Pod is small enough that I could dissemble the old hub/brake assembly and put in the new hub if I had to.

As for Good Sam, when my transmission blew out on my RV, they 'held my hand' at every point.  They arranged for a huge tow truck to bring me in to the transmission shop. They even called the shop to make sure we had arrived, the tow took several hours.

We just signed up for GS and dropped AAA. I like the idea of both vehicles being towed rather than just the tv. Also, the odds of something happening to the tv are greater than to the pod; GS says they will take the tv to be repaired, and tow the pod to the nearest campground free of charge. Hard to beat.

All that being said, I hope we don't need to use the service!

  Before you order any parts, I would check the tag on the axle to verify the manufacture. Our 2010 has a Dexter Axle under it. These are the specs I used to order from 'Storefront': I am assuming that the hubs are still the same from my 2010 Pod to 2011-12.  I believe that the 3000lbs references each hub not the total weight of the Pod.

GAWR 3000 lbs/06-09

You must use an Extreme Pressure Grease...it has a unbelievably high pore point temperature.
Most auto parts dealers don't even know about such an extreme pressure grease or can't order it.
This I know from experience, spending most of a day going from auto parts dealer to dealer.
I finally drove a longer distance to the closest RV dealer, they had it in stock...no problem.

Mobilgrease HP/Exxon-Ronex MP/Kendall L-427/Valvoline Val-Plex (#615)/ or Pennzoil 707L.

If any other Pod owner has ordered a replacement hub...and the specs have changed...please respond to this thread.

The price was quite reasonable, $50 I think, and had quick delivery.
Hope that you have your Pod Manual...the hub specs are listed there.
If not, I will try to dig up my order receipt.

Techntrek...I believe you are correct...AAA won't send out two wreckers to tow in both pieces of your rig.  If your TV breaks down...you will have to leave the Pod somewhere until you get the TV fixed.  If the Pod breaks down, you might be able to have the tow company send out a flatbed truck or trailer to haul the Pod in for repairs.  The problem with recovering the Pod is that the pod is really a two wheel vehicle.  The tow company will winch the Pod up onto the flatbed.  I am not sure how well it can be pulled up a ramp/slope without dragging either the front or the rear as it is being winched.  You may be able to convince the tow company to provide a low dolly to put under the rear of the Pod to keep it from dragging, while it is being winched up.

Good question, I haven't checked that out, I always figured I would leave the Pod and just tow the TV.

tidialwave, thats a good idea to have a spare hub just in case. We had GS when we owned a motorhome for reasons stated by dsmiths. Now we use AAA, just because 80% of our driving is around the state or in town, and we usually only take 2 long trips in the summer. I have 4 cars and a Truck and a Montana fifth wheel and the Pod and have never used it but I buy it for security.They will tow you farther than AAA. I had thought about it, but I think pulling a trailer is different that a $300,000.00 Motor Home. I can change a tire on the Pod, I think the worst problem would be a wheel bearing going out, that should not be a problem for most repair shops. I have thought about it, but am on the fence, what does everybody else have to say ?
