+2 on the shower cap idea.....except I don't have a shower cap.
I don't cook inside but, I get a lot of alarms from smoke wafting into the camper from the campfire.
I may try something like a sandwich bag.

Thanks for all of the help. Yes, the furnace only caused the alarm to go off the 1st time we ran it. Dust...explains it.
As a newbe, I appreciate the forum so much. I am learning so much from everyone's experience.

As a former owner of an alarm company, we installed many residential alarm systems that included smoke detectors.  The method that many smoke detectors work is to check the air for smoke particles using a visual sensor.  Anything which would obscure the internal sensor, including dust, spider webs, etc. will trigger the alarm.  To cut down on falsley triggering the smoke detector where cooking fumes would be a problem, is to open a window and turn on the fan.  This should keep most cooking fumes from triggering the alarm.  When starting a new camping season, an additional item to check is the smoke detector to make sure no spiders have crawled inside the detector.  Annual vacuuming will go a long way from triggering false alarms. ]]> Tue, 24 Jan 2012 07:50:29 +0000 https://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2338&PID=21894#21894 smoke alarm : I think that has happened to all... https://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2338&PID=21888#21888 Author: dsmiths

I have had the smoke alarm go off when cooking...but never had the alarm go off when the furnace came on.  Smoke alarms generally detect the particles in smoke...I wonder if there is a lot of dust in the new furnace which is being blown out into the Pod. If so, the dust should quickly be blown out. We are new owners of model 177 which we took on our first trip last week. Everything was great except.....The smoke alarm.... every time we made toast, cooked or turned on the furnace, the alarm went off. Does anyone have any experience with this and a solution??????
