Thanks for the welcome.  As I mentioned, I won't be taking delivery till next spring but will certainly mention how my "mods" are doing.  Reread some of the suggestions and I went crazy on anticipation of ordering our rpod.  Went to ebay and purchased some LED bulbs to replace the bulbs in the rpod.  Seems to make a lot of sense to use low power LED's and get brighter light output.  I was also thinking about replacing the jack up front with one that swivels and has a roller on it.  Might be somewhat easier to "spot" our trailer in the location that it will be stored.  ]]> Tue, 27 Sep 2011 13:19:24 +0000 http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2129&PID=19779#19779 new podder : Welcome, CamperBob! In popups the heat strip is useless, a separate electric heater does much better.  However, the pods are so well insulated, and small, that the heat strip is probably all you'll need even when its fairly cold out.
 
We added the memory foam and its much more comfortable.  I can't speak to it being hot, we always sleep on/in sleeping bags which give some breathing room.

I will be ordering a 2012 171 Hood River edition in the spring.  This forum is a terrific resource for new pod owners.  I have a few questions, however.  I was wondering if anyone has had installed the heating strip that is an accessory for the A/C.  Using it with full hookups seems to be another avenue to minimize propane usage.  I realize this may not be totally adequate for winter camping but to take the chill off in the morning might be a useful addition.  In reading the many posts on this forum I have made a list of useful mods to make when we take delivery.  Also, has anyone had any concerns with the rather thin OEM mattress supplied.  I am of average weight and in looking at a 171 at a dealers, I did lie down on the mattress.  Not a lot of support.  I have heard of adding memory foam to the top of the mattress, but I wonder if it sleeps rather "hot."  The battery cutoff and a longer sewer pipe holder are on my addon list.  I have also decided to add a second LP bottle and auto transfer switch.  Not fun to run out of LP in the cool nights.  Anyway, that all for now.  Will have further questions as I continue to research.  Thanks in advance for comments or suggestions.  ]]> Tue, 27 Sep 2011 09:04:12 +0000 http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2129&PID=19758#19758 new podder : Travelite - welcome from one transplanted... http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=2129&PID=19757#19757 Author: Hodge-PODge

We just purchased our Pod!!

we have been lurking on this site for a while during the time that we were researching travel trailers.  With all of the helpful information here, we decided that the R Pod was the right choice.  We were able to find a barely used(2 or 3 times) 2009 173 unit near us that we just purchased.

We have been tent and van camping for 35 years.  We have just retired and are looking forward now to more traveling and adventures.  We love to canoe, bike and hike among other activities.  I am an avid woodworker and greatly appreciate all of the great modification ideas I've gotten here.  I really hope to make our Pod personal and unique.

Thanks to all of the posting podders who have helped us .  We look forward to being active members of the forum and share some of our ideas and modifications.
