The Lake Huron gathering went pretty well. We had 4 couples who'd been to previous outings and 3 who were attending for the first time. The cornhole tournament went well, the hot dog roast/community potluck went well too. The weather cooperated with us too. 

We'll see you in the Porkies, we're going to the Presque Isle unit for a few days before the official start of the roundup at the Union Bay unit.

Is the hot dog a mandatory food item or can we burger it instead?  May be a silly question but my wife doesn't handle dogs well, regardless of their name brand.  Thanks.

Reminder for this weekend's roundup:

Informal schedule for roundup. We're keeping it loose and open, times to follow. There's lots to see in the area and the beach is great, so we're allowing for lots of personal time.

Friday evening: Meet & Greet at HuronSailor's site. Campfire will be provided, bring your own beverage. Introduce yourselves and tell stories.

Saturday evening: Hot dog roast/pot luck at HuronSailor's site. Campfire and a dish to pass will be provided. Bring your own dogs and a dish to share. Nothin' fancy.

I'll bring the cornhole game.

We have one but unfortunately won't be able to bring it as we are carrying our antique stock to Ontario and will be short on space.
Tom put it on the Gastropod himself and found it not difficult with the help of a stepladder. What I like best is the zipper door in the side enabling us to get in and out for items we have stored inside all winter. We bought the taupe one because our pod is parked at the end of the garden, very visible from our dining room windows and I didn't want it to be really "in your face" all winter. It has weathered wind storms and not slid around at all.

If you have one of the Forest River winter covers, would you please bring it along with you to this rally? I have the Northern Tool cover, and since the issue of covers comes up regularly on the various forums, I thought I might take a few minutes to compare them and take some pictures. Thanks.

Parks along the Great Lakes are very popular, and only about 1/3 of the sites in this park are vacant for the roundup. Get those reservations in ASAP!

When I looked this AM there were sites available, but very few in our chosen area - the two closest to the store were open for the duration of the roundup. There were quite a few open in the center of the park. 

I was surprised at how many had been reserved just for the weekend, apparently all of them yesterday as this was the earliest opportunity to do so.

Click on the link in my previous post and you can then view a unit map. You'll see there's two campgrounds. We'd planned on the north campground in the north unit, cleverly named "campground" on the map. It has volleyball nets, horseshoe pits, a playground, store, and easy beach access. We're going to go for a site on the outside of the park, hopefully on the east side closer to the beach. Once we get our reservation we'll post the site number. 

If you all want to share your site numbers I'll make up a map showing where we're all at.

I've had some good folks from down south that are not familiar with the area express concern about driving through Detroit on the way to this roundup. I would say that if you've driven through Atlanta it should be no big deal. It's all Interstate highway going through Detroit and only about half the lanes that there are in Atlanta.
