    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=410" rel="nofollow">TerryM</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1892<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 22 Jun 2011 at 2:29pm<br /><br />I had 98.5* under my car port just little while ago.&nbsp; The heat index is 108*.&nbsp; Thursday, Friday and Saturday we have a 60% chance of rain.&nbsp; If it goes the way it has been going the rain will hit Jacksonville and not us.&nbsp; But at least someone will have gotten it.<br><br>The big problem is the lightening strikes.&nbsp; We have had some storms without rain...just lightening and winds.&nbsp; That causes a lot of fires.&nbsp; The last storm had 9,000 strikes!&nbsp; That is the problem of living in the lightening capital of the USA.&nbsp; We are ranked 3rd. in the world also.&nbsp; <br><br>Terry<br>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=735" rel="nofollow">tpierce220</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1892<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 22 Jun 2011 at 11:27am<br /><br />I just looked at the map, and it's amazing how much of the state is covered by forest fires. &nbsp;It truly is feast or famine as we had tornado warnings here last night with hurricane force winds. &nbsp;For a short while it reminded me of the time when I was in Key West with a hurricane churning out in the Dry Tortugas with the trees bending sideways and the torrential rains and lightning.<div><br></div><div>In the town I live in we have had over 6" of rain this month with it looking like more is on the way. &nbsp;The farmer's field behind my house is turning into a lake, and I'll be willing to bet that a portion of his soybean crop is ruined and can't be replanted. &nbsp;One of the janitors that works at the university that I do was telling me that a good portion of his corn crop is ruined as well. &nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div><br></div><div><img src="uploads/735/IMG_2412.jpeg" height="214" width="320" border="0" />&nbsp;The body of water is not the field--that is a pond, but you can see a lighter area toward the center of the photo is where the field is under water. &nbsp;<br></div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=2" rel="nofollow">Guests</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1892<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 22 Jun 2011 at 9:01am<br /><br />I did a quick check on this and they are pretty much running it right out of the "play book".&nbsp; The Governor has issued a disaster declaration.&nbsp; In this, he appointed the State Emergency Mgmt Director the "main dude" to command/coordinate the response.&nbsp; He also gave the Director virtually the full resources of the State and a "blank check" to cover the expenses.&nbsp; The Director has the authority to summon the National Guard, DOT, Red Cross...anything.&nbsp; I didn't see anything where he/she had done this, however, I just quickly skimmed things.&nbsp; <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>At any rate, if the State Director&nbsp;should determine assistance from outside of the State is needed, it would&nbsp;likely go thru the FEMA process.&nbsp; &nbsp;</DIV>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=410" rel="nofollow">TerryM</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1892<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 21 Jun 2011 at 11:58am<br /><br />I know that they have gotten some volunteer firemen.&nbsp; I "think" they are asking for firemen also.&nbsp; The problem is they have to cover the fire houses and these fire fighters are working with next to no sleep/rest in 95* to 100* heat.&nbsp; Yesterday the heat index was 105*.&nbsp; Plus the heat from the fire.&nbsp; I almost forgot about the humidity.&nbsp; It is way up there!<br><br>There was a crawl across the TV screen just now that there is a heavy smoke warning for southeast Georgia and northeast Florida until 4PM. <br><br>Terry<br><br><b>UPDATE: 2 firefighters were caught in the fire and died.&nbsp; Both had been with the US Forest Service as firemen for 10 years.&nbsp; Two others were also hospitalized.</b><br>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=410" rel="nofollow">TerryM</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1892<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 20 Jun 2011 at 9:10am<br /><br />With all the heat and no rain Florida is on fire.&nbsp; As of this morning there are 423 fires around the state.&nbsp; The eastern shore line counties are being hit the most.&nbsp; Here in Saint Johns county we have 25 fires.&nbsp; Most are being caused by lighting strikes.<br><br>The fire in the Okefenokee Swamp in Georgia is more than 200,000 acres and crossed into Florida.&nbsp; It is within 50 miles of Jacksonville.&nbsp; The ash is falling in Jacksonville making parked cars look like they are covered in snow.<br><br>If anyone is thinking of coming down here they should check on the smoke level first.<br><br>Terry<br>]]>
