I agree with you, square head or Torx (star head) is superior to the Phillips.  Hard to keep a good grip on a Phillips head under high-torque situations and then it gets stripped.

I just want you to know that the availability of Robertson screwdrivers is not a question of remoteness. In Canada it is the standard type of screw used (square head) and can be found in any size hardware store. I"ve heard carpenters argue about which is better to work with. Americans seem to prefer Philipps. I think Robertson is better. It's a bit like Obama care vs.the Canadian single payer system. Guess which I think is better. MM, we keep the small freezer pack in the freezer until we are ready to come home then put it in the refrigerator to keep everything cold on the way home. Seems to work pretty well.
When our propane ran out on our second trip due to the leak in the hose, we limited the door opening and put the freezer pack in the fridge for the last day of the trip and things were still cold.  I find our refrigerator is pretty well insulated.
 
Campfires are Not included in the dark skies, nor are flashlights for taking "the long walk" , just extra lights outside.  Not a problem for us as in forty years of tent camping we never carried even a Coleman lantern -did make for a few meals cooked by headlights though!LOL
 
Outbound, maybe it is an Alberta thing? Or maybe the fellow at our walk through was just being extra cautious.

Might have a bit to do with it that your weather is near perfect for my tastes, at least in Summer when we get near triple digits and poor Texas STAYS there with no rain.
 
I, too, have it on my checklist in RED that the propane is off when the car moves away with the Pod. Same as when we had motorhomes. Since I have the pod on power here at home, the battery is recharged fine.    I don't know how each state checks if we have it off or on anyhowOuch, just as some allow radar and some don't. I use to know some of those up the East coast and take it down, but in the Pod I keep in the slow lane and don't have to worry about speed!
 
You have sort of confirmed what we have always done with the frig. Turn it on(easy if on power at home, not so much if not) a couple of days before trip out and of course putting frozen food in and already cold food too. I have not had to use a "freezer pak" and just put a little circulating fan in yesterday to see what that does to the temps before I turn the frig. off.  I was out in pretty full sun my last trip, at least the Pod was, I wonder if that makes a difference. I did keep it on all 5 snowflakes and was not in it much, so cut down on the in and out.
 
One of the things the husband checks when I get back home is to see if I have remembered to turn the propane off( don't know if that is natural caution or the engineer/pilot in him) but it has rubbed off on me.
And since we camped, tent and motorcoaches, in US, I had not heard of all lights out. That is very interesting. I know quiet times, no generator times.  Does that include your campfires?

Would you want propane spewing around if you were ever in an accident?
Our refrigerator has never been on colder than the second snowflake because it gets too cold and the items I take from the freezer do not thaw in time for supper. Granted it does not usually get much over 80 in summer but we are pretty pleased with its functioning. We run it for 12 hours or so before leaving , fill with refrigerator-cold food and one frozen ice pack in freezer compartment. along with the frozen items.
 
Those lights look cool but don't any of your parks have 'dark sky' rules about light pollution?

Pawpod: Where do you get the little bags of drying agent? I used to save some out of drug bottles, guess they are the same thing. Try this, on a warm day take off the upper cover (outside), put it into a plastic bag and put the cover back on.  That will trap the heat.  Stand there and listen for a few minutes.  It shouldn't take long for the fans to turn on.  They are variable speed so they may start off slow and then ramp up.

Don't forget to take the bag off.  Nuke

Hmmm, we were out in high 90's over the 4th and I can't say I ever heard them kick on.  But then again it is on the other side of the camper and I'm sure it's hard to hear over the AC unit anyways.
 
I just get this bad feeling mine never kick on since I've never seen them actually spin or heard them.  Ouch

About these fans. Our Pod has them as well and at first I thought they ran all the time and was concerned.  At the recent ERU I asked one of the engineers and Susan from Forest River about it and yes as you say, they told me they are thermostatically controlled to kick on when needed.
 
I've just never heard them I guess, and since I've never seen them spin at random times that I've taken the fridge side panels off I wonder if they are in fact working.
 
When do you notice yours kicking on?

We also run a small fan in our fridge.  It changes the temperature quite a bit.  For example without the fan you can leave a soda in the fridge overnight, opened because we take drinks if we wake up during the night.
 
That same soda with the fan inside running turns it into complete slush by morning.
 
Our is a small 5 inch battery fan.  Runs on high off two D batteries for almost 3 days.  I soon decided to buy the AC adapter for it though and just shut the fridge on the cord carefully and plug it in near the bed.

Tech, thanks for the safety info regarding propane (I just LOVE Mythbusters - but missed that particular show), and as I'm not going through any tunnels as I travel today, I am going to use the propane after all.  It just seems more efficient to me than the 12 volt, and I won't have to worry about draining the battery when I stop.
 
Pawpod, I used one of those little fans my last trip out.   It does help keep the temperature at a more acceptable level.  My fridge fan has no on/off switch though, so I had to remove the battery to turn it off when not camping.

ClapWhat is and how small is the fridge fan? Very little room in there, but I run on coldest setting all the time and start the fridge 2 days before I drive out and insert already cold and frozen stuff when I fill it.
I am going to check in on what some of the suggestions are, but so far I am not displeased with the results of doing the above. And I never drive with the propane on, state law or not, just gives me the creeps to think of possibles.
 
As I stated, I saw the little lights, used on the ground and looking like runway lights! Sudtle. I am not shy of having the twinky ones, kind of like the festive. Just have to have something to string them on. Getting thereLOL I figured by the end of this season I will have it the way I want finally, then on to some new thing that will take a while to put into effect.  Like most things, using and practice makes one more efficent and I wonder if we ever set back and say DONE, I am content. Too hot to get in an uproar, I need to quite tinkering ......
Putting snap beans into the freezer and corn off the cob for creamed corn this Winter. Hit the ground running, time a' wasting to get tomatoes canned too. Have a month before I go out again, so should get it all down and still be standing.Star

Keep in mind that the 'pod fridge already has 2 12 volt fans, thermostatically controlled, in the rear compartment.  I had to add a 12 volt fan to my popup, I was happy to see - and hear - those fans already in place when I bought it.  While my popup fridge barely stayed cold enough (we always carried a compressor-style dorm fridge for sensitive foods like dairy and meats), the one in the 'pod stays very cold even when its in the 90's outside.  You may need to get the "stack" cleaned out.

We always had "tacky lights" with our popup, but only put them up a few times with the 'pod.  This trip we tried something new we both like a lot.  Its called "electro luminescent wire", usually called "EL wire" online.  Very cool stuff, easy to put up and has a neat glow to it.  This will give you an idea of what it is, but we didn't buy from this place (we got ours on closeout from IKEA a while ago).

Thanks David.  I might just consider that little doo-hickey.  Both the reviews attested that it worked.  I just have to figure out if I want it bad enough to spend nearly $90. 
 
I've had my RPod fridge cooling all day and I am making sure all items have been chilled in my household fridge before I put them into the Pod fridge when I leave tomorrow.  I plan on traveling with the 12 volt option on.  I would prefer to use the propane, but I'm too afraid of what would happen in a collision if the propane was lit.  And I know in some states it is illegal to travel with the propane lit.  Don't know if that applies to Georgia and North Carolina though.

The mod I'm thinking of is probably a little more involved than either of you would like.  You might want to think of something like this:

I should offer this caveat - I have not used this product and can't offer personal experience with it.
 
I like the option one of the product reviewers wrote about - being able to run it off of 12 volts. 
 
The fridge vent is, well, vented to the outside.  Plus it (the fridge) is generating it's own heat.  Combine these two and, when hot/humid, it is going to operate less efficiently.  For what it is worth, I found much the same with mine and typically ran it at the highest setting.

What is the mod for improving behind the frig(is this on the outside of Pod?)
I run on electric when I have full hookups, propane when dry camping and battery when traveling.
While I have not problem, if there is/are mod suggestions , I would like to hear them. Thanks

Speaking of the fridge -- I know you were talking about your fridge at home -- but I'm not really pleased with the one in the RPod.  I have mine on the highest setting but it doesn't get as cold as any fridge I've had before.  I put in a fridge thermometer and the temp is barely in the acceptable zone.  So I put in a battery operated recirculating fridge fan from Camping World but it doesn't seem to make any difference.  Does anyone out there have a suggestion for improving the cooling performance of the fridge?

Are you running your fridge on 12 volts, 120 volts or propane?  I have found them to perform best on propane.  Removing heat from the area behind the fridge will make a big difference and there is a mod or two to do this.  The warmer the ambient temperature (and the area behid the fridge) the less well they operate.

The frig. at home is limping along, almost empty. Does not look like my house!
Parts are due to be put in tomorrow or if I am lucky, tonight.
I am just grateful if the problem has been found, if not I could buy a small car for what a replacement would cost. NEVER build in (and I have done it TWICE).  Have found only 2 that would fit the space or I may have to do the trash thing and have a fridge on the back porch! Sorry, anyone, if you have one on the porch, they probably have fancy ones now for that very purposeBig smile I guess in the outside fireplace and kitchen they do.
