As far as the break controller goes, mine was getting too aggressive, so before I put it back into storage, I played with it in the storage yard open area until I found a setting that I liked better.  I don't know about yours, but mine has a dial that allows me to dial up or dial down the amount of braking that I want.

I am 5'7", so no real issues with the shower, but steel squeezy!

AWESOME!.....great decision, I'm sure you will not regret!

Its easy to use, for what it is, it is pretty 'basic' and very user friendly, you don't need a 6 volume manual to 'drive' this baby!

 From our point of view we like the idea of being DRY when it is raining. Funny how we both remember warm, sunny days camping with our parents when we were young but as soon as we got married (forty years ago this year!) it started raining every time we camped.

We also have problems with bears. In fact my son had to rescue his kids ages 6 and 3, TWICE from two different bears on one weekend last summer. We were in the next campsite and it was a busy campground. They cut short their trip by a couple of days as he had troluble sleeping  in their tent the next two nights. I am pretty sure they are going to take us up on our offer to share the Gastropod with them and I will feel better thinking of my grandchildren safe at night.

The last reason we chose the 177 was the fact that we will have locks, such as they are. The world is not becoming a safer place and we have a few not-so-great memories of scary whooping and hollering nights.

After all that,  we still love camping and hope to do lots more.

But I can't help but feel that there's where a weakness could be/is, in that canvass material.

Temperature inside the RV on a cold day is another thing, canvass just does not have the same insulating factor as what solid walls have.

Windy day/night, canvass moving and flapping, no matter how taught it is, it will still move and flap to some extent.

Setup, I just like pulling up at the site, unhitch, level out, connect services if available, move the slide out and voila!!

We looked at a popup and pullout before we bought the RP 177, once all set up, they do seem roomier and bigger, but, we did not buy an RV to live in it!

So, for us, from a general comfort and security point of view, a solid wall RV far outweighs anything a pop up and/or pullout can offer.

I agree.  Before I bought my new 2011 RP 177, I saw a 2010 in the Ebay classifieds for my area, and they were asking for $10,000, but by the time I made up my mind to go with the RP (and not the MPG or ChaletRV), the 2010 RP was gone -- and I don't think it was a slideout model either.

 

I am actually glad I went with the new one.  At first, I didn't care for the sink in the BR, but then I realized that sticky fingers (I have grandkids, you know) do not have to be washed in the area where food is prepared!
