 As everyone else has said our hearts go out to those effected by the tornadoes. I heard the weather report, and it was said that normally tornadoes are at their peak in the month of may. Having lived in Nebraska for 20+ years we know how devastating tornados can be.  Our prayer go out to all those who have been affected by these storms.  Fortunately? the only real weather we have to deal with here in S. Tx is hurricanes, which we went through a couple of years ago.

+1 on that!  I had a funnel cloud 2 miles West.  There were some trees/limbs down, but nothing serious.
We've just had gobs of water lately.  My heart goes out for the folks down South.

I guess Mother Nature was letting us know who is in charge.  The 11:00 PM locale news is on right now and we are expecting severe thunder storms in a couple of hours.  Just think...next month is normally the month with the most tornadoes.  I hope they are wrong.

Here in the piedmont of North Carolina we dodged the bullet again.  I'm so sick of these strong fronts rolling through this April.  I heard on radio this afternoon that April averages about 150 tornados and this year there have been nearly 600 reported.  And that's just in the month of April.  We have been so lucky (so far) and I'm so thankful.  My heart truly goes out to those who have not been as fortunate and to those who have lost family and friends.  I see that they are expecting another front to come through Monday into Tuesday.  Let's hope they are not as severe.  In the meantime, we're heading back to the campground when I get off work tomorrow and get to stay until Monday.  We are only 30 minutes from the CG so should make it home before the weather gets here.  Everyone stay safe and have a great weekend.]]> Thu, 28 Apr 2011 22:40:34 +0000 https://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1766&PID=15115#15115 I Hope Everyone Is Okay : We had a tornado warning directly... https://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=1766&PID=15110#15110 Author: techntrek

We had a tornado warning directly over our house this morning as that storm front moved over MD, they moved the kids out of the trailers into the main building at their school but happily nothing came of it here.  Ironically as I type this I'm on an Amtrak train heading south, right in the middle of where all the action was last week on Saturday (east of Raleigh, right where we were last Fri/Sat just before all hell broke loose).

Well, let's just put it this way.  No one here in northwest Georgia got any sleep last night!  My daughter and 2 grandsons took refuge in our basement.  I stayed up until 1:30 a.m. and monitored the news until the tornado watch was over.  All evening tornadoes had been popping up in places north, south, east, and west of us, but somehow we got missed.  So the only thing I lost was a good night's sleep, but many others did not fare so well.
 
My son-in-law is the Red Cross director for 10 counties in NW Georgia, so he had been up in Catoosa and Dade Counties all day.  When he tried to come home, I-75 was shut down at the Ringgold Exit (about 30 miles north of Calhoun) because of the direct hit Ringgold took - the last count was that 8 people were dead but I've heard conflicting reports about whether people are still missing or not.  My son-in-law has been working for more than 36 hours straight.  Thankfully, the Red Cross is sending someone from Atlanta to relieve him this evening.
 
One of our 2nd grade teachers lives in Ringgold.  The police were blocking the road when she went home yesterday.  They asked her address and when she told them they said she was lucky because her house was still standing but others around her were damaged or gone.  They gave her 5 minutes to collect some clothes and told her she wouldn't be permitted to stay there.  This morning it took her 2 1/2 hours to make what is normally a 30-minute drive to Calhoun.  Several other teachers I work with are without power, and one is not only without power but has a tree through the roof of her house as well, but no one is hurt.  We are all VERY aware that we have fared better than some of our neighbors.
 
On a lighter note, when I got home yesterday my daughter said, "Oh, Lord, Daddy and I were so worried that your new camper would go flying across the cow pasture in all that wind, and we knew how upset you would be!"  But I admit I feel guilty for being relieved that the Pod is okay when so many people close by have lost their homes.  As much as I love my Pod, it IS replaceable -- loved ones are not.
