    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=448" rel="nofollow">Brin</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1752<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 26 May 2011 at 11:46pm<br /><br />That is great.&nbsp; We will be there from 5/31 until 6/5.&nbsp; We won't arrive until late on Tuesday night as I work until&nbsp; 7pm.&nbsp; We should try to get together for a dinner or something while we are there.&nbsp; I like the Hoover camp hike down to the river and I am sure you will enjoy the tour.&nbsp; As we will have a dog with us, we won't be able to take the bus down.&nbsp; If you get a chance to walk upstream a little from the camp, the river has some nice pools to cool off in.&nbsp;&nbsp; Have you ever had a chance to have dinner in the bar in the basement of the lodge?&nbsp;&nbsp; They have had some interesting local entertainment in the past.&nbsp; <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>Wow, I guess it is time for me to start planning what hikes we are going on.&nbsp;&nbsp; We will be at F198.&nbsp; I suspect that somehow we will be able to pick each other's campsite out. <img src="http://www.rpod-owners.com/smileys/smiley36.gif" height="18" width="18" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" /></DIV>]]>

But that is soon to change and I'm looking forward to it. We will eventually be camping at camp grounds, but putting our pod on our property in Vt. would be considered primative I think. though we will have running water, so maybe that's not really primative <img src="http://www.rpod-owners.com/smileys/smiley1.gif" height="18" width="18" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />. I think each level from primative to commercial has their own merits. I look forward to trying them all!]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=2" rel="nofollow">Guests</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1752<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 01 May 2011 at 7:00am<br /><br />Thanks, Leaflin!&nbsp; You even included a "bear sighting" <img src="http://www.rpod-owners.com/smileys/smiley1.gif" height="18" width="18" border="0" alt="Smile" title="Smile" />.&nbsp; The campsite pictured looks just fine with me.&nbsp; You'd be hard pressed to do that good at Loft Mountain, IMHO.&nbsp; <div>&nbsp;</div><div>Loft Mountain is OK.&nbsp; There is a camp store, pay showers and laundry&nbsp;on site.&nbsp; Also, there is a small restaurant/fuel station right at the entrance, on Skyline Drive.&nbsp; I had intended to visit Shenandoah last fall after leaving the Smokys.&nbsp; However, this would have kept me in a strong storm front so, I decided to just stay put at the Smokys.</div><div>&nbsp;</div><div>Back in 2007, I camped at the Smokys and then drove the entire Blue Ridge Parkway and Skyline Drive.&nbsp; I would recommend this trip heartily to all...it's a beautiful drive.&nbsp; Give yourself at <strong><u>least</u></strong> 3 days to take it in and fuel up when you can; opportunities are not abundant.&nbsp; The speed limit is 35mph...<img src="http://www.rpod-owners.com/smileys/smiley36.gif" height="18" width="18" border="0" alt="LOL" title="LOL" />...maybe you <em>could</em> do that in a Ferrari!&nbsp; However, you won't want to.&nbsp; This is one of those times where the trip is probably as much&nbsp;fun&nbsp;as the destination.</div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=2" rel="nofollow">Guests</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1752<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 26 Apr 2011 at 6:32pm<br /><br />Judging by the pictures of Big Meadows,&nbsp; it looks better than Loft Mountain.&nbsp; I've stayed in the low "A" numbered sites on the main road in.&nbsp; Some have some good views and are close to the AT.&nbsp; Most of the sites are "pull thru - half circles", so they are easy to get in/out of.&nbsp; However, you'll have the sun in your eyes in the evening.&nbsp; The more rustic sites seem to be in the "generator free" F &amp; G loops.&nbsp; On the southern end of the campground....not many live trees/shade.<div></div>Ticks......ugh!&nbsp; I hate pulling those things out! (on my dog)&nbsp;<img src="http://www.rpod-owners.com/smileys/smiley7.gif" height="18" width="18" border="0" alt="Angry" title="Angry" />&nbsp; It sounds like I should put Big Meadows down for my next&nbsp;trip to Shenandoah.&nbsp; <div></div>I always have a lot of fun chasing "bear sightings".&nbsp; Shenandoah......cool. &nbsp;<div>&nbsp;</div><div>Nope, I gave up the tent.&nbsp; </div><div>&nbsp;</div><div><img src="uploads/444/100_0161a.jpg" height="363" width="547" border="0" /></div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=448" rel="nofollow">Brin</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1752<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 26 Apr 2011 at 1:33pm<br /><br />I have only stayed at Big Meadows too. &nbsp;I love the area around the campground to walk around in the evening after we get back from a hike. &nbsp;The shower is close enough to walk to. &nbsp; They have the lodge open after mid May and we often go there for a sandwich and some "entertainment" in the evenings.&nbsp;<div>Loft Mountain looks good and I would like to try it sometime. &nbsp; Big Meadows is closer so we have always just stopped there. &nbsp;</div><div>Do you have a site number that you recommend at Loft Mountain?</div><div>If you are tent camping, I would suggest site 37 (if you don't mind carrying your stuff to your site) &nbsp;it is the furtherest one into the woods and most secluded. &nbsp;It does have a bear box to store your stuff. &nbsp;</div>]]>

Can you put the dome up on that site.&nbsp;&nbsp; We did have trouble with using it on a different site due to a tree being in the way.&nbsp; I don't get reliable reception for the phone up there so it is difficult to contact us easily but I am sure we would be easy to spot.&nbsp;&nbsp;&nbsp; Do you know if they have any diesel pumps up there yet? Two years ago they didn't.&nbsp; </P>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=418" rel="nofollow">Outbound</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1752<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 24 Apr 2011 at 4:38pm<br /><br />My views are similar to David's: I prefer the rustic campsites found in Provincial and National Parks.<div><br></div><div>To tell the truth, the only real need (as in <u>must have</u>) I see for electric hookups is to run the A/C at night. &nbsp;Everything else can run on battery or simply not be used at all. &nbsp;Fortunately, 'round here, A/C is only <i>needed</i> at night 4-5 times a year. &nbsp;And, if we head north, A/C really isn't needed at all; I can't remember a single time that we've ever turned on the A/C at night in Algonquin.<div><br></div><div>In the past, we tended to book sites with electric hookups. &nbsp;But, these sites do come at a premium cost and they tend to book up quickly. &nbsp;They're also a bit RV-touristy, which is starting to grate on my nerves at bit. &nbsp;This year, we're increasing our dry camping and are venturing to some new campgrounds which are less travelled by the RV crowd. &nbsp;I'm looking forward to it.</div></div>]]>

The MI state parks tend to have the primo locations and you can make reservations online.<div><br></div><div>Haven't tried any of the State or National Forest campgrounds yet, they have good locations too but are more primitive and usually first come first served. Pretty inexpensive too. Maybe this summer ...</div>]]>
