What model did you buy?  We love our Pod!  Number one, it's just so darn cute!  It's easy to tow, and my husband is a pro at backing up   We purchased ours from Three Way Campers in Marietta, who in our opinions could not be any better accomodating.

We plan to go to Salacoa Creek again the weekend of June 24th.  Perhaps we will see you there?

There are so many beautiful places to go in Georgia and a lot of them are within less than 50 miles from our house.

Is that your R-Pod parked at that subdivision just outside of town on 156 like you're going to Rome?  You said you camped in Calhoun but you didn't say you were from Calhoun.  Just wondering.  So how do you like your 177?

Relax and enjoy!  There is really not much you HAVE to do.  As always, if you have any questions, most everyone here will be happy to help.

 

The only thing I would worry about is being SAFE when you tow, and knowing how to maintain your pod (such as winterizing, dewinterizing, etc.)  Believe it or not, you are probably good to go just as you are.  So just enjoy . . .  and by the way, I'm going to TRY to follow my own advice! 

I'll be happy to post some pics when I learn how.  I take lots but then they languish on the digital...I'm really feeling overwhelmed by the amount of things to remember re the Pod.  Am I correct that lots of this stuff will seem obvious once we are actually using it? I hope 

Reading all those posts about cotter pins and thermostats and leds that don't work and hose connections, etc. has made  me realize this is not going to simplify our life!

I really appreciate those other Newbies who ask what many of you must consider really basic questions and Iknow we will come up with some of our own once the Gastropod is home. Next week I hope!

 

 

Thanks!  Frankly, I have not even tried a hand held vacuum.  The camper upholstery doesn't seem to catch and hold fur as bad as the truck.  In either case, I have a tough time getting it out with my shop vac at home.  I can get things "reasonable" with a small wisk broom (Dollar Store) and a "lint roller" (or cheap duct tape). 

 

Again, welcome.  Post often and, I'll give you a hint: we all like pictures .

  I have to confess I have been eavesdropping on your discussions for months while waiting for our Pod.  I have picked up all kinds of hints and ideas and gone shopping for certain items a few times too.

  I finally got my husband to help me get set up on here (I'm a bit nervous about doing new stuff on the computer).

  We have camping reservations for the holiday weekend in May but if this snow doesn't move along more quickly even then will be doubtful.  Reservation doesn't include any services so testing them will have to wait.  By the time I got through on the website the morning they started taking reservations, there were only 17 sites left in the campground. 

 

We have tent camped for our entire lives so having a dry place out of the rain will be such a luxury.

I'm also looking forward to being able to cook in the light..

  I enjoy looking at your pics of Dixie. We will be travelling with our Sally -half Elkhound, half Border Collie and all 65 lb. fur- shedding machine.

 

We have a question about hand-held vacuums. Are any of them effective on the unholstery in regards to pet hair? Even if Sally stays on the floor (which I doubt), her fur is that crinkly stuff that floats around then attaches itself like a limpet and I can see us travelling down the road someday in a giant fluffball...

Yes, the camper sits very high.

 

We ordered her before Christmas as a combination Christmas gift/retirement gift and due to the excessive amount of snow in our backyard still have not been able to bring her home.

 

We are hoping for the 29th or 30th of this month. We have had our walk through and took copious notes but I know there will be things we missed or can't understand from our writing.

 

I would like to thank everyone who has posted  for their contributions. Your  informative writing has helped make a very, very long winter pass more quickly and I feel as if I know you already.  My husband and I are looking forward to becoming members of your community.

I noticed you have your receiver hitch flipped with the ball on the high side. You pull with a Silverado and still need the extra height?

I've got the locking pin for the trailer tongue, too. Bought at Harbor Freight for about $10. I've yet to purchase the locking reciever hitch bar (also available at HF, Northern Tool, or any other trailer place), I just use the bar and pin that came with the hitch. For me the purpose of the tongue lock, in addition to keeping the trailer trailing while driving, is to keep any would-be hijacker from swiping the trailer while I'm away. Though anyone with five bucks for a hacksaw could probably dispatch the $10 lock without too much effort.

 

 

Both have covers to keep dirt out of the lock.  However, a squirt of WD-40 about every other month keeps them turning smooth.  I think I paid around $25 for this set at AutoZone.

 

Like Outbound, I use a keyed alike set - one one the hitch bar and one for the camper tongue.  There ain't no way the hitch bar is going to come off.  I don't worry much about the hitch bar being stolen in the campground, but it would be very easy for someone to take when parked elsewhere.

Thanks for the ideas about pins and padlocks!  It will make for safer podding for us all.

 I have thought about investing in locks like Outbound but just have not gone that route yet.
