There is a hinged door in the floor of the bedroom (ceiling of the "basement"). It even came with the laundry basket you see in my picture! I noticed the same thing about the mileage.  But, frankly, I didn't tow the Pod enough with the new truck to really give an honest accessment.  My RP173 UVW was about 2350, with the new camper UVW 3018.  I don't notice much (if any) of a difference weight-wise.  Believe it or not, I got about the same mileage when pulling my old 5th wheel with 6800 UVW, with a nearly identical truck.  The only difference was the old truck had the 5.7L (350c.i.) with throttle body injection; other wise, everything else was the same.  Like you, I did notice the hills more.

Congrats on the new TT Gene, we did the same last fall only thing is we never did get to use it yet. it's still snow bound and will be for a while yet. As far as this forum goes, don't be stranger because  camping is camping and units will come and go but we learn from each other no matter what unit we have at present.

Congratulations on your new camper!  Tech is right, I traded my RP173 for a Coleman CT187.  It's not way bigger than the Pod, but smaller than both yours and Bigbit's.  It's just me and the dog, so I don't need much.  I sure do enjoy the dry bath and the awning.
 
I too say you are always welcome here.  What applies to the Pod is true with most any TT.  Past, present or future Pod owners....we're all campers and share a common interest. 
 
I've come to learn that all of the "things" in my life are just temporary, anyway.  What is good today, will be replaced by something else, at some point.
 
Tech....are you sure you have your priorities right?  I did the TV and camper first.  I plan to start my kitchen this year!  LOLLOL

I seriously considered buying that exact model last fall Bigbit.  With the frontal wind load I'm at my max with my current TV right now, so I decided I didn't want to pull the wind load plus add 500 actual pounds.  I can't justify upgrading my TV yet, so I can't justify trading in the 'pod yet either.  I have some other big projects to do first, like remodelling our kitchen and bathrooms.
 
gepaine - you are always welcome here.  David is still here, too, and doesn't have a 'pod.  Smile

I know the feeling - we had a 175 too, and also felt the need for more space.  Last June, we bought a 2010 Trailmanor Elkmont 24' and have been delighted with our purchase.  Here are some photos:









The extra room has been a delight.  It only weighs 500 lbs more than the R-Pod, but with lots more space. 

I do agree that the folks on the R-Pod Owners forum are the best...
