    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="https://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=217" rel="nofollow">techntrek</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 1578<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 02 Feb 2011 at 4:32pm<br /><br />An FYI for those with DirecTV (and this should apply to Dish too), you can just take one of your receivers with you - no need for a separate account.&nbsp; You just need a dish mounted to a portable&nbsp;base of some kind (make your own or you can buy them), often you can get dishes free on Craigslist.&nbsp; I kept my old standard-def dish when we went high-def, which is another option.&nbsp; One benefit of using a standard-def dish is they are much easier to aim.&nbsp; DirecTV doesn't require a phone line and I think that is true for Dish for an extra fee. <DIV>&nbsp;</DIV><DIV>One catch to this - if you travel outside of your "home" area, you won't be able to receive your local channels.&nbsp; They are broadcast on narrow spot-beams from the satellite.&nbsp; You used to be able to get an account for RVs which let you receive the "big 3" via their home-area broadcast channel (such as WABC in New York) but which was re-broadcast on a &nbsp;nationwide beam, but I don't know if you can do that anymore.&nbsp; </DIV>]]>
