    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=6036" rel="nofollow">lostagain</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 15525<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 24 Nov 2022 at 10:46am<br /><br />Installing a generic microwave in an RV probably require some attention to air flow around the microwave, thus either an open space around it or some kind of decorative grill surround would be in order. &nbsp;<div><br></div><div>We don't like those huge over stove microwaves, especially since we don't use it much, and don't like one sitting on the kitchen counter, so I built a cabinet for our kitchen to have a "built in" microwave out of the way. &nbsp;I had to be sure to have adequate space in the cabinet design to allow for air flow. &nbsp;Since I am not a microwave design engineer, I haven't a clue if there is enough, but so far we haven't burned down the house heating the occasional cup of coffee.</div>]]>

RV microwaves have the trim kit to keep it from falling out as you are rolling down the road. That being said, in spite of the claim of RV microwaves being "ruggedized" to take the bouncing around in an RV, I don't see how they are any different inside from a non-RV model.]]>

OTOH, we rarely use the convection part of it, so if it goes out (we are on our third), I will likely replace it with a plain microwave oven and use the folding Coleman camp oven for baking. That way, I can do that sort of thing outside and keep the heat out of the RPod.<div><br></div><div>I remember the oven/stove combinations my parents had in the trailer and the truck camper my parents had before they got their first motor home. In the days before seatbelt reqirements, we rode in the camper since there was no room in the cab for all of us as it was in the days before crew cabs became popular. We baked the Appian Way (or similar boxed mix) pizza while rolling down the road. We wouldn't be able to do that now.</div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=6036" rel="nofollow">lostagain</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 15525<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 24 Nov 2022 at 8:13am<br /><br />We use our microwave in our trailer to store plates and such. &nbsp;On the rare occasions when we have camped with shore power available, the microwave remains as a storage cabinet. &nbsp;I think in the two years we have owned a trailer with a microwave, we've used it once. &nbsp;If it wasn't so much trouble, I'd take it out and store it away so it'd be available to put back in when we eventually sell the trailer. &nbsp;The oven on our 3 burner stove, on the other hand, gets used occasionally to heat up preprepared meals that we cook at home, such as lasagna. &nbsp;It works fine but does heat up the inside of the trailer, so I wouldn't want to use in in hot weather.]]>

OTOH, prices for RV Microwaves start as low as $161 for a&nbsp;FOREST RIVER MCG992ARB .9 MICROWAVE which is a Magic Chef microwave.</div>]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=1821" rel="nofollow">hogone</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 15525<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 23 Nov 2022 at 8:45pm<br /><br />Happy Thanksgiving to all.&nbsp; Finally camping!!!&nbsp; Great week to be out, as very few folks in the campgrounds, I think 4 others.&nbsp; As I may have mention in other posts, its been awhile since the old rpod has been out.&nbsp; Fired up the microwave this eve to heat up some water for Pam as she wanted some hot chocolate.&nbsp; After about a 90 seconds, the microwave shut down completely, including the lighted control panal (like where the clock etc is).&nbsp; After about 2 minutes, the control panel would light up and the microwave would again run for about 90 seconds and shut down.&nbsp; No breakers tripped, etc; would just pop on again on its own (hope that all makes sense).&nbsp; I am assuming this bad biy is fried for one reason or another.&nbsp; Thoughts?&nbsp; jon]]>
