Once we went to always showering with the door closed, the problem never resurfaced. Apparently, the thermostat was sensitive to moisture.]]>

I meant "normally open". Most tstats have normally open contacts which close when calling for heating or cooling. ]]>

If you can confirm that then you can just test by manually closing the connection between the two tstat wires to confirm proper a/c operation and then replace the tstat with any other basic tstat which provides that contact. <br /><br />]]>
