I have a Highlander as well and I agree putting stuff up on top is a bit of a stretch. Still, that's probably the best place for bikes
You could try standing on a folding step stool to help with the lift. We travel with a pair of road bikes, Specialized Allez which are quite light at 18 lbs./each.  They are put inside our 177 and layed on their side on top of the bed or table area.  I do not travel with them outside as they pick up a lot of bug juice as well as road dirt/sand/grime on the chain and derailleurs.  Don't like the thought of having to clean my bike/chain/derailleurs while on vacation

i am trying to get useful information on how to travel with my mt bike. my TV is a highlander and the bike will not fit. i dont like having it in back of my 2016 180 for obvious and already stated reasons. i am too short to easily place a bike on top of my car or even on one of those high frames that go over the propane tank on the tongue. so far i put it in and out of the kitchen area but its awkward and inconvenient. am i missing an oblivious solution?
 i have searched for info on this topic and found nothing useful
