There is a nice simple graphic instruction sheet. The only thing you got wrong is you don't have to wait to install it. Once you disconnect from shore power the line is dead.

But if you're not comfortable by all means have someone who is install it, no way it should cost $500.

Wiring for Surge & Electrical Protector : I'd call 540.00 outrageous....

    Author: mjlrpod
Subject: 14892
Posted: 23 Aug 2021 at 11:30am

I'd call 540.00 outrageous. (unless that included the EMS unit in the price). I'm NOT, I repeat i'm NOT very skilled with electricity, but it is not a hard job. There are several youtube videos I saw listed. My guess is, you just disconnect all power (battery too). I would wait an hour or so after that, just to be sure power discharges. You to take the wires coming in from the umbilical, and going to the converter, and make them go to the EMS instead. Then you add a couple short pieces of wire (10 guage?) to connect the EMS to the converter. The whole purpose is to be sure all power goes thru the EMS before ever going to the camper. So installing the EMS on the output side of the converter, would not be advisable. You will notice once it is installed, and you plug it in to a power source, It takes about 15 - 20 seconds before the power turns on in the camper. That is the EMS checking that the power coming is safe to allow through. Good luck ****** All electrical guru's feel free to point out every mistake I made.

It isn't exactly rocket science to install on much less "prewire" for it.

So $540 is pretty crazy. I'd find someone to do it for you after you buy it, or if you're feeling slightly adventurous you can do it yourself.

We have been doing research but thought who better to ask than you all!
We are going to get the EMS-HW30C RV surge & electrical protector. Is it better to have the manufacture

install the wiring or do we have someone install wiring and device all at once? The dealership rep said it would cost $540 for pre-wiring only. He said they don't install the device and we would have to find someone that does. Any advice?
