I have an EAZ LIFT 3 and am not sure if i should lock it in place for towing down the road. That particular WDH might be a bit on the heavy side, so theoretically might be a little to "stiff", but as OG suggested you may not notice the difference. Take a look at the etrailers.com website. They have  tons of useful  information  there about WDH. I run the same 800-1000 lb tongue weight Curt wdh. It's perfectly fine. Remember that the wdh has to lift both the trailer tongue and whatever is in the back of the tow vehicle, so 800-1000 lbs is in my opinion the correct size for most folks.

The way you would decide you have an overrated wdh is if your ride got really bouncy because the spring bars were too still. We have towed our 177 for the past 10 years using a simple $ 40 Curt anti-sway bar over 34,000+ miles with no issues.  Vehicles used to tow it have been a 4WD 2008 Ford Explorer (4.0 V-6) 2011-2015, 2WD 2013 Ford Explorer (3.5 V-6) 2016-2018, 2011 F-150 (5.0 V-8) 2019, 2017 F-150 (3.5 V-6 + ecoboost) 2020 to present. 

Our fully loaded 177 with full FW tank (tank located behind axle) is 2960 lbs.  We also carry 2 batteries and 2 propane tanks as we usually boondock.

Hi, 

We have a 2017 Chevy Colorado, V6. We are looking to get a RPOD-178 or similar model. We are confused on what weight distribution hitch to purchase, seems there are a ton of different models, sizes, weight ratings etc. 

We may have made a mistake in purchasing a Curt-17062 that has a Rated Tow Capacity of 8-10K and also has a sway bar. We intend to return it or sell it if needed. It seems there is a shortage of WD Hitches so we bought what we could. 

Question: what do we need as far as a Weight Distribution Hitch as far as Weight Ratings etc? Also is a Sway bar necessary? 

Will what we bought work? or is it way over-kill?
