It saves water and the vinegar cleans everything. \\

    Author: offgrid
Subject: 14676
Posted: 30 May 2021 at 2:14pm

There are lots of posts on the forum about saving water boondocking. Biggest use is showers, second is dish washing. Toilet water use is really quite minimal.

We do the following. Wipe dishes immediately and thoroughly with paper towels, then let them stack up till after dinner. Around the time we start cooking dinner we turn on the water heater.

After dinner we wash dishes. Don't wait for the water to warm up. Wash dishes out of a small pot of soapy water using minimal soap. Rinse all dishes at once with warm water running at a slow rate and place in drainer.

Then take "Navy" showers (water is already warm). Wet down (20-30 sec) water off. Soap up, again minimal soap, then water on to rinse. Water is on for 1.5 to 2 minutes max. When done turn off water heater.

Also, we use water in 2.5 gallon dispensers for cooking, drinking, and brushing teeth. That extends the water supply and saves worrying about water tank contamination. We go through a couple of containers and the fwt in a week, so a total of about 35 gallons of which 30 goes in the gray tank and 5 or so in the black tank. Then dump and refill.

One other thing I did was add a second thermostat to the water heater which is adjusted to 105 degrees, so no fiddling with water temperature is required, just turn in the hot water and go.

(you will need to spend an hour scouring the black tank with the black tank flush port before you do this)

But the cross filled gray water will probably leak from the twist cap seal... if so, you can add a third dumpvalve where the cap is now, and then modify the fitting, moving the cap past that point.

If your r-pod has separate dump fittings for black and gray then you will need to add some extra fittings and valves to make a single section of tubing combine the two with a T or a Y junction.

As OG points out, your rig will be way too heavy but maybe you only need to drive a few miles to a nearby dump station. I would NOT hit the highway with two FULL tanks...its just gonna be too heavy for the lightweight running gear equipped from the factory.

Just leave the black tank empty.

The water lines are 1/2 inchbPEX so you need to get a 1/2 inch PEX end stop fitting. If you don't plan on any other PEX plumbing work you can get a push on fitting.
