The local trips could by 100% electric, long distance you'd have the ICE.

The battery in the F150 hybrid is tiny, 1.5 kwh and the electric motor is only 47hp, so it can't really operate in electric only mode. The truck has been optimized for performance rather than economy. Very little if any efficiency improvement over the non hybrids on the highway. It does perform better in city driving, but if that's not your use case then the only real benefit is the 7kw ac inverter output.

New ford F150 Electric : Electric trucks are a great idea,...

    Author: campman
Subject: 14625
Posted: 11 May 2021 at 11:09am

Electric trucks are a great idea, but not for what I would say is our primary use, long distance driving (to visit family) and towing (as well as day to day errands we can't do by walking or cycling). Now a hybrid f150 as discussed in another thread is what I consider a viable option once they get through the first several versions and get the bugs out (as in any deployment of a new technology). I shudder to think what the cost of a new truck with the top capability battery/onboard generator would be here in Canada...we will need to be saving our pennies to be able to look at one in 10 years or so. But that is the one I am watching to see how it works out. It gives the best balance and ticks all the boxes for errand running up to and including towing long distances. And I didn't even mention the need to be able to do everything in the extremely cold winters we have here in Ontario's Near North.

Tesla has come up with something that appeals to folks who want to imagine themselves living in a SciFi or Marvel movie.

That's all good, there's plenty of room in the ginormus US pickup truck market for both entries, and for GM, Rivian, and Lordstown if any of them ever get it together.

Supposed to be the most powerful F150 ever. And zero drop off in performance with altitude. He he.

It will be interesting to see what the range is. From what I've read it will be initially targeted toward fleet sales where it can be charged back at the shop at night, rather than at private owners taking cross country vacations towing travel trailers.
