So, none of the above. Instead, look for a Ford F150, Chevy Silverado, Dodge Ram, Toyota Tundra, or Nissan Titan. Any one of those would be good. Personally, I am really liking the Ford F150 hybrid and would like to see one. That would eliminate the need to carry a separate generator.

    Author: offgrid
Subject: 14540
Posted: 12 Apr 2021 at 4:31pm

I have a 2012 Highlander but I don't think the newer ones have significantly different ratings. It does fine with a wdh, but I do still have to watch my weights when boon docking, especially tongue weight. I can carry full fresh water, dual batteries, and a 2k genny, supplies for a week, a pop-up tent, a small grill and a reasonable tool set but that's about it. So it works. My 179 ends up at about 3700.

But If you really don't want to have to worry about it and you want to boondock and also carry some more heavy stuff like bikes or a kayak then I'd suggest going a size bigger.

I think the Pathfinder is comparable to the Highlander but I'm not sure.

Do get a dealership (not the one you're buying it at- ha ha) to confirm via the VIN that the vehicle has the factory tow package, it is prohibitively expensive on the Highlander to add some of that
stuff aftermarket.
