The weakest points on the frame of an rpod are the rear of the supports where the torsion axle is attached to the frame. If you hit a bump not only do you have the cantilever load from any weight behind the axle but you also have the torsional load of the axle rotating up and hitting it's stops.

There is less than a 2g safety factor there and that's for a uniform loa, not for extra weight hanging off the back.

2g isn't that much of a bump. We have had at least one member report a bent frame at that point, I'm sure there are more.

Then too you have the effect of reducing tongue load which can be dangerous because of sway. Having carried a bit of weight on a rack similar to the one in your picture, I would not recommend it. I carried things that had a lot of bulk but not much weight. That generator is likely to be bouncing down the highway. There is always a LOT of discussion about adding weight on the rear.  Normally it concerns bikes and bike racks.  the problem's bottom line is the weight and the cantilever effect which creates lots of bounce and frame stress. there are ways to reinforce the frame, add cross members etc that have been done by professional welders. but simple systems seldom are acceptable and last.

Hello friends! Just trying to see if anyone has crated a Mod for the Rpod to carry a 3000 Watt Generator on cargo carrier (100 lbs) behind the Rpod with a cargo carrier that fits into the 1 1/4" hitch, and possible using the ends of the frame rails for extra support? Keep in mind this is not my Rpod and it was an old pic I saw, but thinking it could work if customizing it by using the ends of the frame rails for extra support. Has it worked for anyone? I have a 2018 179! Thanks!
