The High Ponte convection-microwave has ductwork on the outside that carries some of the heat away so it can be vented through the slots in the trim ring. How effective that is is a different question. We are on our third one. The first was replaced because the tone generator that makes the tones to let you know that the cooking is done was barely audible. The second was replaced at the factory when they said the one failed a test. This one has been reliable.

We have not used the convection part much. Most of the time, we could get by with a straight microwave. However, it is nice to have the capability, even if we don't use it often.
