Author: pmjensen
Subject: 1446
Posted: 04 Oct 2010 at 2:19pm

It was a bright sunny late afternoon when Nuestro Pod arrivedat Adolph Thomae Jr County Park on the banks of the Arroyo Colorado in Arroyo City, TX. The oppressive humidity has left us forawhile, leaving us with warm days and (for us) cool nights (65-68). We had been told that if we didn’t like thesite we were assigned we could pick out a different site, as they weren’t veryfull. We did pick out a different siteand unhooked. I went to the office totell them and was informed the site was taken and that most of the nearby siteswere spoken for; so back to Nuestro Pod to hooked up and moved a couple of sitesto our assigned site. I am not sure whatreservations he was looking at but very few of the sites were occupied duringthe weekend. No big deal. The reason we had wanted to change was theassigned site was covered with grass, which, with the mosquitoes out in mass wethought it better to have some packed gravel. The back of Nuestro Pod faced the river making for a nice view.

The first thing we did once Nuesto Pod was parked, was touse an can of outdoor mosquito spray around the area of the Pod and (for the 1sttime) R-dome. We sprayed a double dosewhere the mat and R-dome would go. Setup was uneventful even setting up the R-Dome (thanks to the forum for the spraysilicon recommendation – it worked fantastic) It only took 20 min to get it up and stakeddown. Not bad for the first live setup.

The site as we found out was really great. We had shade, courtesy of some mesquite treeson both side of the Pod. We got enoughsun during midday to dry out the heavy overnight dew. (Has anyone elseexperienced water droplets on the inside roof of the R-Dome?)

The R-Dome really paid for itself this weekend. We were able to keep the mosquitoes at bay byspaying with Raid flying insect killer a couple of times during the day andevening. The mat floor was littered withdead mosquitoes etc. by the end of the weekend, but we really enjoyed haveR-Dome as protection. It was great tosit in there and watch the variety of personal fishing boats head out to theLaguna Madre and come back. The entire coastalarea down here is huge into fishing. Iffact, the only minor downside to the park was the people coming and going tolaunch their boats and fish off the night lighted fishing piers. It seemed to start about 5:00-5:30 in themorning and we heard some coming or going about 10:00 pm.

All in all it was another great weekend of Podding. We are definitely planning on coming hereagain, especially since it’s just a short 45 min drive. Below are some pictures of Nuestro Pod on thesite and of the park.

Nuestro Pod with R-Dome for next site over

Main road & another site

View from our site
