another backing tip-set yourself up for success.
If you have to back in on a slight curve-like backing into a campsite from the road-go forward farther than you think necessary.  give yourself plenty of straight back backing before you gently start the curve. also, when you initially pull forward, angle the tow vehicle  and trailer to the opposite side of the turn.  this gets your rig started in an angle that will help and make the turn less sharp.
WE take people to an empty school parking lot and practice backing-it really helps you get the feel of doing it competently.
as mentioned, a spotter always helps.  Laura uses hand signals-pointing which way the trailer needs to move. sometimes she can stand where we want the driver's end of the trailer to be.  This gives me a target to work towards.

+1 for steering from the bottom of the wheel. That will get you started, but after that it's practice. While I was getting the hang of it, it was always helpful to pull forward a little to straighten things out. Once you get it straight (or more straight), you can give it another go. I also use a spotter with a 2-way radio to help guide me. Hello everyone - we purchased our new R-Pod 189 back in March and we managed to make four multi-day trips since then.  These trips were largely to get familiar with towing and travelling with a trailer and figuring out how to equip it.  Oh, and I should add learning to back up confidently. Everything went well, some minor glitches got sorted out, and now we are planning some longer excursions starting in Spring 2021.  We are based in Victoria on Vancouver Island which offers us many beautiful destinations within a few hours of home.  We would also like to give a shout-out to Arbutus RV as they have provided excellent post-sale service.  If we see another R-Pod on the road we will be sure to give an enthusiastic wave.]]> Thu, 05 Nov 2020 18:47:21 +0000 http://www.rpod-owners.com/forum_posts.asp?TID=14186&PID=138008#138008
