Give the spotter time to check clearance on the outside of your turn where you can't see the trailer, or stop and check it yourself if you don't have help]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=1008" rel="nofollow">Pod People</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 14186<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 06 Nov 2020 at 8:30pm<br /><br /><div>another backing tip-set yourself up for success.</div><div>If you have to back in on a slight curve-like backing into a campsite from the road-go forward farther than you think necessary.&nbsp; give yourself plenty of straight back backing before you gently start the curve. also, when you initially pull forward, angle the tow vehicle&nbsp; and trailer to the opposite side of the turn.&nbsp; this gets your rig started in an angle that will help and make the turn less sharp.</div><div>WE take people to an empty school parking lot and practice backing-it really helps you get the feel of doing it competently.</div><div>as mentioned, a spotter always helps.&nbsp; Laura uses hand signals-pointing which way the trailer needs to move. sometimes she can stand where we want the driver's end of the trailer to be.&nbsp; This gives me a target to work towards.</div><div><br></div><div>Vann<br></div><div><br></div><div><br></div>]]>

That will get you started, but after that it's practice. While I was getting the hang of it, it was always helpful to pull forward a little to straighten things out. Once you get it straight (or more straight), you can give it another go. I also use a spotter with a 2-way radio to help guide me. Oh, and don't guide with "left" or "right", use "driver's side" and "passenger side" when giving/getting directions.]]>

    <![CDATA[<strong>Author:</strong> <a href="http://www.rpod-owners.com/member_profile.asp?PF=10795" rel="nofollow">pedwards2932</a><br /><strong>Subject:</strong> 14186<br /><strong>Posted:</strong> 05 Nov 2020 at 8:35pm<br /><br />We bought our 2018 rp189 used and we love it.&nbsp; When I worked for my dad's boat business many moons ago I used to teach customers how to back trailers.&nbsp; A good intuitive secret is to keep your hand at the bottom of the steering wheel and the direction your hand moves is the direction the rear of the trailer will go.&nbsp; Also with a single axle trailer they will turn really quickly don't be afraid to pull forward to straighten the trailer.]]>

Everything went well, some minor glitches got sorted out, and now we are planning some longer excursions starting in Spring 2021.&nbsp; We are based in Victoria on Vancouver Island which offers us many beautiful destinations within a few hours of home.&nbsp; We would also like to give a shout-out to Arbutus RV as they have provided excellent post-sale service.&nbsp; If we see another R-Pod on the road we will be sure to give an enthusiastic wave.]]>
