So I disabled the auto connection on my phone an hour ago. I just went into the R-Pod and the news was on. When I turn it off there is no red light. Mine is a 2016 unit. I don't get it.

I also installed a simple on/off toggle switch. I pulled the unit out of the wall and found the red 12V power wire and cut it, added a pigtail to each end and connected the toggle. Now, I can completely turn the power off and save the battery.

Sounds like you have autoplay turned on in your Spotify app. I had the same issue with my car bt. This explains how to shut autoplay off:

Alarm is off. We did not get any manuals with our 183g but I have found one online for the Jensen. I think it has to be the bluetooth also. As soon as I go in there with my phone it connects to Spotify and starts playing even though Spotify app is not up on my phone. I will check for the red button for off. Unless the on/off button is red it is not off. Also switch the function to something other than BT (bluetooth) then off to see if that helps (might be a glitch). We are having problems with our Jenson stereo system coming on by itself in our driveway. I do use the Bluetooth for my Spotify pairing from my phone when we are camping but the radio seems to be coming on by itself.
