Great suggestion.

Be aware though that we are only now entering the prime hurricane period, which peaks in mid Sept. As water temperature are taking longer to cool below the "magic" 80 degree mark which is required to maintain a hurricane the season is lasting longer, at least until end of Oct if not later. Anyone camping near the gulf or Atlantic coasts over the next 10 weeks or so should be prepared to bug out or change their plans quickly. Leave early if a storm is expected, you will miss the traffic and be less of a problem for first responders to deal with.

If you want to help with the recovery, there are several orgs headed to TX/LA already. Take your 'Pod and chainsaw and head. Bring a group. I know of a handful of groups that take volunteers and organize relief.

I work with one and will be headed south in September. We bring generators, a power panel for RVs, shower trailers, a laundry trailer, tools and saws and a kitchen to feed volunteers. While there are going to be flooded vehicles inland that might make it into the used market, I don’t think anyone needs to worry about ending up with a Laura RV from Cameron LA. The eye of a cat 4 with 150 mph winds and 10+ ft of storm surge just went through there. At least 4 ppl died. Any RVs that were there are going to be kindling now far inland. It would take a miracle for someone that didn’t make it into a proper building in time to survive that.

From the Weather Channel:

More than 9 feet of storm surge was reported near Cameron, Louisiana, where the storm made landfall. An estimated 150 people refused to evacuate in Cameron Parish, according to the Associated Press. Some planned to ride out the storm in elevated homes, while others were reportedly in recreational vehicles.
