I got the replacement switch in yesterday from etrailer.com. Super fast shipping btw. I lathered up the connections with some dielectric, easy install, and fixed the problem. Correct. I have a (not so) Fantastic vent fan. I'm curious why the switch isn't sealed or protected. I might look into modding a cover for the switch to keep it dry.

@Stephen - can you post a pic or a link to the fan cover? I would be curious to see what it looks like and how it functions.

It sounds to me like you have the FantasticFan vent since you are talking about a mechanical switch. The MaxxAir in mine has two push buttons, one controls the speed and the other is to turn it off. I installed a cover on my vent so that if it does rain, it won't get in. They aren't specifically needed, but they are nice since you don't need to worry about if you left the vent open in a rainstorm. Also, they let you leave the vent open in the rain so you can still get some air circulation and stay dry. Installation is not too hard. You do need to remove a couple of screws from the vent and install a couple of plates to lock the cover down. You need lap sealant to do this so you can seal the screws and plates. If you do this, then you won't have to worry about whether the new switch will eventually go bad also.

I took the bottom plate off the vent fan and removed the switch. The back is a bit rusted. The construction is rather flawed, there is a vent just above the switch that allows rain to drip on the switch when the vent is open. The new switch is only $20 online. Sounds like the electronics have gotten wet, or otherwise failed...debris in the works maybe?

It could be that this is a feature when plugged into shore power and might be driven by humidity, but the bathroom fan turned on automatically last night while camping. The switch is in the 0 or OFF position. It remained on all night and is still on this morning... Is this normal? 

UPDATE BASED ON COMMENTS BELOW:
The switch likely got wet and shorted out causing the fan to run continuously in the off position.
A new switch was ordered (first time using etrailer.com, great site I recommend it for sure).
Easy install and fixed the problem!
