I'm hoping some black fabric and magnets will do the trick. From what I've read the parks frown upon exterior covers, so it will need to look like the window.

I covered the skylight with a beach towel and it made a big difference already. I'm sure it will blow down any minute though : )

I will check out that hold down kit. The winds where I am are not predictable at all. There will be no wind and then out of nowhere I'll get a 20-30 mph blast. I will definitely retract before I go anywhere. Thanks for the advice!

When in doubt just retract the awning. If you're not outside where you can be monitoring it you don't really need the shade from it anyway.

    Author: StephenH
Subject: 13716
Posted: 28 Jun 2020 at 6:43pm

Welcome and congratulations! I hope you have many fun adventures and make many great memories with your RPod.

Can't say I have mistakenly attributed to the black tank an odor from an outside source. I have stepped in doggie bombs, but fortunately, recognized it in time to avoid bringing it indoors. Lego blocks are not fun. One time, I went to step into my volunteer fireman boots only to find that one of our daughters had dropped a Shape-O ball piece in the boot. That didn't feel very good either.

If you can't find exterior window covers, go to the hardware store and get some of the Reflectix foil-faced bubble insulation. Cut shapes to fit your window frames and put it between the window and the blinds. That will help greatly to reduce the amount of heat coming in. You may be able to use some to put up in the skylight opening to reduce heat gain from there also. As for the awning, make sure you brace it. You can use the brackets on the wall or put the legs down to the ground and stake them. For more wind resistance, use ropes and stakes. I made a couple of used plastic coffee containers and filled them with concrete mix, embedding a stainless steel eye bolt with locknuts and a fender washer. I use a rope to go up to the swivel point of the legs on each end. That really helps for unexpected winds. Ultimately, bringing the awning in when high winds are expected is smart. I vary how much it is extended depending on how much wind I anticipate. No to very low winds, I extend it farther. Higher winds, I only extend it a very little bit. If it sounds like it is flapping and it is trying to rock the RPod, I retract it all the way.

The Thule site shows a Hold-Down Kit which could be purchased and used. That would also increase the wind resistance of your awning.
