That’s because the hardware you have is a converter not an inverter, producing 12 Vdc from 120 Vac, not the other way around. If you want (very limited) 120Vac power available when not on shore power you can buy a small inverter inexpensively and connect it to your trailer battery.

We just purchased a 2015 rpod 178. I have a super noob question and I apologize if it has been answered elsewhere. Do the outlets only work when you are plugged into shore power or can they be powered off of the inverter?

Mine only work when they are plugged in to shore power. I wanted to make sure this was by design and not a loose connection or a bad inverter? Thanks for your help!
