It has to have a long enough tube to both hold the moving parts and to stabilize them. A short tube would be weak. From what I see, about all of them have the same outer tube length. I retract mine fully before traveling and I do have a <a href="https://smile.amaz&#111;n.com/Husky-31610-Brute-Retractable-Extensi&#111;n/dp/B00BX9C59Q/" target="_blank">Husky Brute Super Foot </a>on it (although I did have to cut the extension tube in half to suit our driveway). Before I put that on, I pull the pin on the round foot and push it in as far as I could before re-pinning it. I did not like the way it dug in to some soft blacktop once as the edge of the round foot is not rolled up so it had an edge that dug in. <br>]]>

The one key is to make sure it is grounded to the frame since only one wire supplies power.
