Much of my opinion comes from experience. I think there is a nitch for silicone. For me it is not on RVs and especially external surfaces. There are many better sealant products available.

The first big negative is that it is very difficult to remove.

It is also a very powerful contaminant. Especially when applied to fiberglass or gelcoat. Once that residue is on the surface it is very difficult to get any other product to stick to it. Once you have silicone oil/residue on your fiberglass, it is extremely difficult to get anything else to stick to it.

When I worked at body and paint shops silicone was taboo.

There are many better products to use for this discussion.

Ooops.

I saw a you-tube video on an rv where the guy spoke highly of it, but he didn't mention it was silicone-based and I didn't see it on the ads.

I have used DICOR on the roof areas, like the fact it is self leveling. Used Flex Seal on the bottom at different times. The very bottom of the outside floor. My rule has been to stay away from silicone based seals.
