I will not be getting the Dome, have ordered an awning from Bear Creek, but will be using the top c-channel, so need a step stool that will fold up, light weight. I have to use my 3 step stool out of the kitchen and stand on top step to reach the top of the curve when I was using a toothbrush on the inside of the channel. Will use it to look at screws, but a 2 step might be enough to pull the awning through when it has the silicone in it.

Like the Dome, but I have a screen house from my tent camping days.

 

 

  We just put up our dome this weekend for the first time.  The silicone lubricant really helped. My husband (5'10") could just reach with a one-step folding stool but since he cracked it anyway we replaced it with a two-step rated up to 300 lbs from Walmart. We decided to edge the slit we cut in the netting for the step with black electrical tape after dome is dry.. The screw heads were sunk enough in our model 2011 channelling that they did not interfere with the  passage.

The 7' fits well? Clears the door; I know the gentleman that posted some time ago about the Bear Creek site said he got a 6'4". But that little more will cover well.

Did you have choice of colors, he had a white one, went well with Pod, but on thinking on it I remember how spotted the light color can get, I am lazy when having to scrub and try to put away dry. What color did you get?

 

And if you do not mind, what did you pay for yours. Did it have a bag and the 2 poles and guy wires?

 

I am thinking about getting one very soon. Have not gone out (due to rain, rain, rain) to check the screw heads to see if they need tighting. Did get some silicone spray, hear that smooths the way.

 

 

Our awning is 6'4" wide - I didn't want to go any wider as I didn't want it to be affected too much by the curve of the trailer.  I was also concerned that a wider awning could interfere with the door.

Anyway... call Al at Bear Creek and speak with him (I suggest that you call instead of email).  He's a nice guy and will be happy to answer your questions and offer you his advice.

We've got an r-dome, and we'll set it up when we're meeting up with camping friends and its going to be cold or wet and we need the extra gathering space.  The rest of the time, when its just the two of us, we use a little awning that I had made:

Our awning takes three minutes to set up or take down, fits in the r-dome channel and suits our needs for a little bit of shade or protection from rain very well.  I find a well made polyester weave awning mat to be essential as well.

Thank you for the information on where to look for rope. I will hold on to that when I get some other things done

If anyone else get the SunShade and makes it into an awning, please let us know how.

 

 

 

You can actually buy the rope stuff prefabbed and ready to sew on. One source is SailRite (www.sailrite.com).  Do a quick search for "awning rope" once you get to the site.

 

Similar stuff is used on the leading edge of roller furling sails, but like most stuff on a sailboat, it has a goofy name. There it's called "bolt rope." Another search option for you.

If it cools off a bit I may tackle it myself. This learning curve is getting bigger!

 

It is a Coleman 2-Pole Sun Shade, 10'x10', 90" center.

In the review it said if you hac 2 more poles you could use it for awning on a camper.  Have ordered one, will see what the poles look like and how that would be done. If not, just having it NEAR the door when stepping out just might work.

 

But having an awning would keep the Pod cooler.
