Plus there is Lake Meredith (free!) and Buffalo Springs Lake. Lake MacKenzie, White River Lake, Lake Allan Henry are a few others.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>All of these are in scenic areas, and Caprock Canyons has a large Bison herd that roams the park.</div><div><br></div><div>Occasionally they will meander right thru your campsite. Big Bend has some pretty impressive mountains and the Hill Country is nice too. There's also the Davis Mountains, which I'd like to visit sometime to check out the astronomical observatory there.<br /><br />East Texas has lots of pine forest area.]]>

Weather is great but kiddies are back in school. Only downside for solar weenies is the lower solar irradiance levels in the fall. Spring is better from that perspective.&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>You can get the same effect though with dispersed National Forest or BLM camping any time of the year. Campgrounds? Campgrounds?&nbsp; We don't need no stinkin' campgrounds.&nbsp;&nbsp;</div><div><br></div><div>I'm sure Quartzite is fine, just not the best scenery the Sonoran Desert has to offer the winter/spring visitor.&nbsp;</div>]]>

That way the campgrounds tend to be a lot less crowded. Temperatures would be milder so probably no A/C needed.<div><br></div><div>Of course, this rally might be only 2 r-pods in the middle of nowhere...but actually, I'm OK with that too!</div><div><br></div><div>BTW, the Quartzsite area has a lot to offer...lots of stuff to do during the winter season...but I was kidding about dragging a Texas Rally two states over.</div><div><br></div><div>But I will be there anyway!</div>]]>

Quartzite is only half an hour from Blythe but then, you're in Blythe.<img src="http://www.rpod-owners.com/smileys/smiley17.gif" border="0" alt="T&#111;ngue" title="T&#111;ngue" />&nbsp;<div><br></div><div>I like the idea of a boondock pod rally, but how about doing it somewhere which is a nice quiet scenic destination in its own right?&nbsp; &nbsp;Somewhere in the Rockies or the Appalachians? Or if you like the desert, Organ Pipe in the early spring? The desert around Quartzite isn't particularly attractive.</div><div><div><br></div><div><br></div></div>]]>

Granted, there's not much in the way of attractions nearby (other than the lake), but I enjoy just hanging out amongst the trees, even if they're bare at that time of year.<br /><br />If you don't like the current offerings, start your own. The first R-Pod rally in Texas that I'm aware of was in Tyler, organized the first year by one person and we took it over the second year. We now organize both Texas R-Pod rallies. If anyone wants to take one of them off our hands, I'd definitely be open to that. I, for one, would be glad to attend a Texas event where I wasn't one of the organizers.]]>

It takes place at Jellystone at Whispering Pines just east of Lindale, TX. This year, the event coincides with the Masters Challenge (Dog) Agility Cup in nearby Tyler. If you're a cat person, the Tiger Creek Animal Santuary has several large cats that they care for.<br /><br />Reservations can be made by contacting Jellystone at Whispering Pines at 903-858-2405.
