That is spooky. Gives me the chills just hearing about it.
We would sit in my daughters living room (she was on high plains 20 miles North of Ft. Collins, Co. and watch tornadoes in Kansas. They, themselves never had one, but the wind was always blowing, so had windbreaks of trees to shelter the house. Or what goes for trees out thereWink
My grandchildren come here and they were suprised trees grew so large and so many.

I remember seeing tornados when I was a kid. All my aunts and uncles lived out in Kansas, Ok, Texas and New Mexico.  All had "root cellers" in the back yard, fasinating things for a kid.
And I too had heard for a long time to get under an overpass, but it becomes a wind tunnel.
As we traveled !-70 to Colorado when our children lived there, I would look instead for ditches and keep an eye on the skyConfused The husband has never seen a tornado and laughs when he sees my head on a swivel, looking for wall clouds and the greenish-yellow sky. One other thing to remember is not to get in that ditch near your vehicle, it might roll over and rest on youStar. There are some places going across our Breadbasket that have NO indentions!

When I said TV I meant "tow vehicle".  Sorry!  Embarrassed  But with the inverter I'll be able to run the TV (television) from the TV (tow vehicle). 

I love using my laptop to show weather radar when I'm worried about storms.  Instant, accurate, and I can check on it when I'm sitting around the fire - waiting for a shower to ruin the evening.

They say the best thing to do is to get out of any vehicle, including a car or truck, and lay flat on the ground.  In a depression or ditch if you can find one.  I've seen videos of people that have crawled up under the I-beams of a bridge and survived but they warn that the bridge could get sucked off its supports and then you're a goner.

Something to think about:  in times of sever weather you will get better info. off the TV.  They will show maps pinpointing the storms.   A radio station you pick up might not be close to you because the signals travel further.

The recent news story about the campgrounds flooding and the lost lives reminded me of a lot of things I found out when I lived 6 years on the road.  Very few campgrounds have a tornado shelter for campers.  One campground we were in, in Ohio, said if a tornado gets close to go to the office building.  Guess what!  It was locked up at 6PM.  We did have a tornado touch down fairly close by.  The fire department did come by telling everyone to take cover by yelling into a bull horn.  We didn't have anywhere to go so I went back to bed and crossed my fingers, toes and eyes!

In OK we were in a campground that had a huge old water tower buried in the ground and converted into a tornado (or bomb!) shelter.  I felt much safer there!

Well, I will be on the side of asking questions. I don't know enough to give any answers!
 
I am not even going to get a TV in the Pod, at least for now. I will put a radio in it for news . And my piles of books. And just peace and quiet. NOW, if the husband decides he wants to camp again, he will most likely have that to piddle with. There is Always something to do on these things, large or small. And his engineering background absolutely keeps him poking and working on something. Has to live with me, I know how to LAZE. Sleepy

You get them based off the number of posts you have.

No problem with the questions as I understand answers always opens up so much more.  My wife cringes every time I start saying "you know I was thinking on the R-pod......."
