Most places I have looked at have water and electric and I am think I am going to stick to those initially as I get a feel for what works for me. The only exception to this is Shenandoah National Park which offers no hookups. I was thinking of getting a solar panel for that. When we do go to the Shenandoah it’s been in the fall so no need for a/c. I don’t see is having a huge power requirement.

    Author: StephenH
Subject: 12759
Posted: 14 Apr 2019 at 9:32pm

Hello and welcome! The F150 should be more than adequate for the 190. I tow our 179 with a Frontier.

First off. not knowing the year of your F150. does it come with the integrated brake controller? If not, you will need to add one. Then you will need to make sure that there is power going to the connector on the F150. On some vehicles, this involves plugging in a fuse. The F150 does not necessarily need a weight distribution hitch since it has a high enough capacity. You may want one for additional ride comfort. If so, one with sway control is best. One like the Equal-i-zer 4-point sway control hitch or the Fastway E2 hitch (2 point sway control), or the Andersen No-sway hitch would work. If you don't want to go for the WD hitch, then some form of sway control is good to have. Hayes makes the Sway-Master electronic sway control that is easy to install. Tuson makes one that is a bit harder to install but which is probably better in that it can control the trailer wheel braking for each side separately.

Beyond that, you will need the basics such as:

Drinking water safe hose for filling the water tank or connecting to the city water connection if you are in a campground.

sewage hose and fittings

a basic tool kit containing a torque wrench to make sure your lug nuts are torqued to specification and various tools for minor repairs/modifications as needed/desired. A small floor jack and a jacking block to be able to jack up the RPod to change a tire without damaging your axle is good to have. (see my mods for the jacking block I made for ours, link in signature).

A socket and a drill/driver to make lowering and raising the stabilizers a whole lot faster and easier.

If you plan on boondocking a lot, better batteries. I opted for dual 6V batteries (wired in series to provide 12V). If your budget supports it, a LiFePO4 battery would be even better as it saves a lot of weight and space compared to my setup.

I'm sure you will find lots of suggestions for basics to take along. The forum probably has a lot of the information you need. You might need to use the advanced search function though so you can search farther back than six months.

Have fun.

We typically set up a base camp and hike all day. Evenings consist of cooking drinking a little beer and a little whiskey. We have been staying in either federal or state camp grounds. We have been walking the campgrounds and seeing small campers. This week I put down a deposit on a 190. We are really excited. I am going tp pull it with a 2wd f150 V8 with a tow capacity of 10,000. That should he good? Right?? 😜 Any recommendations for anything else? I am new to RV’s
Thanks
Brit
