In keeping with our minimalist approach to Podding, we found that getting a custom cut 4" foam pad, making a slip cover for it, yields a super comfortable mattress at a fraction of the price of those fancy ones.  Custom cut foam comes in different densities and if you like a firm bed with a squishy top to keep you warm in cold weather, you can always get one of those foam toppers.  

We've found our humble foam pad to be just as comfortable as our fancy pansy $2K mattress with our bed at home.  And I heard from a vegan vegetarian once that the custom cut foam mattress for right around $100 cures lumbago, the common cold, gout, morning drowsiness, stomach pain, curbs the appetite to lose weight, keeps bad dreams away, gives you good dreams that come true, and may even save your soles, and more! Big smile  I home them lawyers don't sue that vegan lady.

Ok, I see my original link has been removed, and I get why, as politics were mentioned in the link although not in my post.  

So, in order to very specifically avoid any political aspects, here is an entirely different link to a Consumer Reports article on Mypillow's settlement in a consumer false advertising lawsuit in which politics are not mentioned. I think this might be of some value in our members' decision making process, or not.  Please let me know if that is also a violation of forum rules.  Thanks!

So my comments will be on the blankets side of things rather than the mattress (good suggestions here already). If you use sleeping bags or comforters, consider putting a cotton "slip cover" on them. Then you just easily launder the covers and only occasionally the sleeping bags or heavy blankets/comforters. Slip covers can easily be made by stitching sheets together or buying wide fabric made for quilt backings. I don't make quilts but benefit from the fact that they cater to that interest group with really wide cottons, and in a great variety of colors, solids, prints, themes, etc. You can probably buy such covers ready-made too if you really don't think you can run a sewing machine, in spite of figuring out the mechanics and engineering of TVs and trailers & related (said light-heartedly!). Making these slip covers is also a great project for the kids in your life, an opportunity to contribute to the family fun while learning new skills. Hope this helps! Less time doing laundry = more time having fun with our trailers. MODERATOR NOTE... I have removed the link, it is political. If a user/member wants to choose their mattress based on the politics and history of the manufacturer/company owner, then they need to do that research themselves. I personally choose my mattresses based on how well they sleep.

Lots of folks here buy a 6,8 or 10 inch short queen memory foam mattress and get rid of the one that comes from FR.

Congratulations on your new 179.  As far as the mattress goes . . . when we purchased our 177 back in January 2011 it was a problem then as well.  So you will have to do as we did nearly 9 years ago and that is to purchase a decent short queen mattress.  We ended up with a Eurotop from Camping World and I have to admit that it is just as comfortable now as the day we got it.  It is a great mattress, not cheap but will last a long time as we use our 177 about 30 days/year.  This year probably a lot more as I recently retired.  Nowdays I see from the FB side of the R-Pod Owners a lot of folk have gone to the Zinus.  Quite popular at a decent price.

Good afternoon Fellow Podders-

Taking possession of our new Rpod 179 in 4 weeks.  Meanwhile, had an occasion to test out the bedding in a Rpod 180 demo recently, and my wife and I found it quite uncomfortable.

Our current plan is to possibly order a My Pillow mattress topper for it.

Any comments or suggestions or recommendations?
